Gary - Congratulations to your dad on his 85th birthday! I hope you had a fire extinguisher close by! That flame on the cake is impressive! I am now at the age where most of my friends are up in years as well. It has given me the inspiration to make sure I bring lots of candles to any birthdays I attend. Thank you Gary for all you and others do to make this wonderful website what it has become.                                                                                        GO WOLVES!

The trick is to use a blow torch (with the little propane  (?) bottle) to light the candles.

So sorry to hear about Gail Smith. It was always fun to reconnect with her at the reunions.

May she rest in peace and her family hold their memories of her close to their heart.

Thank you Virginia for letting us all know of Gail Smith Maxwell's (1964), recent passing. And thank you also Theresa, Aileen, and Buni, for your kind remarks. Any other comments or memories are welcome. When an obituary is made available if you could email it to Gary Wegener (1966) so he can post it in the "In Memory" section, it would be appreciated. R.I.P. GAIL

Okay everyone, fess up.  Let's record hair cuts (or lack there of), and face masks, and maybe what is occupying your time while 'sheltering in place' (aka lockdown).

This is a momentuos time in the history of the world. lets save a slice of it.

This is one of 5 chicks we got about a month ago (they were a day old when we picked them up at Higby's Feed.  (Min order was 25, but we got Joanie's brother to take 20).  If you want a fun diversion, try it (and then enjoy an egg a day from each young hen for several years).  They have the run of the back yard during the day, and they sure explore everything.

God bless all those in working to keep support systems working (medical, infrastructure, food supply, etc, etc, etc).  You all are my heros.

Oh man... yes I need a cut!  It's been since Mar 11.  I've cut Don's hair since we met so so he's good!

Gee Gary, I thought maybe you were telling us you were chickening out! I'm big on masks, and thankfully, my grandkids have embraced them too. I lucked out and got a haircut in a local salon the day things "opened back up." Now I'm waiting to see if they'll still be open next week when I'm scheduled again; hard to tell.

Classmates

I just received my copy of a book by Ron Kingham. Ron was senior pastor at Woodland Bible Church for many years. The book "Lines in Pleasant Places" is a book of his memoirs. Those of you who sat under his teaching will enjoy his book.

This is his second book, the first: "Glimpses of Glory"  is a pastors approach to the Communion Table.

Both books are available on Amazon

I don't think chickens get along that well with quail. Our subdivision here in Spokane Valley was built smack dab in the middle of farm land and we have quail off and on in the backyard and on the fences from spring through fall. Last fall I saw a mother quail waddling across the street with a brood of eight tiny chicks. So cute. We live in a cul-de-sac so it's pretty safe for the birds.

I already was in need of a haircut just when everything closed down. 2 months later I really REALLY needed a haircut when things reopened. I had them give me the Army cut just in case things closed again.

OK folks, talk is cheap.  Need to see some pictures.  Remember, we need to have something to look back on in 10 year to remember these crazy times.

If you have never added one to the Forum before, it is amazingly simple (kinda).

Know where your picture is filed on your computer, go to the forum, hit 'post response', then hit the picture icon in the upper left of your menu options.  Click 'choose file', find your picture on your computer, highlight it, click 'open', then put 150 in 'width', and 3 in 'HSpace' and 3 in 'VSpace', and left in 'alignment'.  Then click 'Upload'.  And you are in...

I am more than happy to help if you contact me.  530 908 4914 or gwegener4098@gmail.com

Gary-are you promoting us humiliating ourselves for the sake of posterity?

Well, you're not getting a picture of me with my "army" haircut. My wife hates it. Here is a picture taken in my sisters backyard in Woodland, of the Childers family that were visiting Mom (Clare Childers) shortly before she passed. Bottom row: sister Roberta, David Childers  (WHS class of 1962), Mom, Brian Childers (WHS class of 1965) and his wife, Gwen. 10 of the 15 remaining people in the back live in Woodland including Dr. Phil Laughlin (far right) who married into the family a few years back. The rest of the hodge podge includes my grandson, Jake (4th from left in back row) and granddaughters Emily and Julia in front of him. Brian's grandson, Rylan (3rd from right in back row) and granddaughter, Soquel, in front of him,  with her blond hair in a bun. Of some note: My sister's husband, Sudhir, is from India. Gloria, David's ex, retired Woodland school teacher, in print dress behind Brian is from Argentina, and cousin Maria Theresa "Gorda", in black blouse is from Chile'.

Janet, it isn't humilating; it is history.  We need some way of memorializing this.  I can pull in pictures from the interent of test sites, cars lined up days long, groups with/without masks, empty downtown streets in mid-day, signs saying masks required, etc, etc..  But it would be way cooler to get them from our personal experiences.

Hey, if you are going to say you are too busy, share what you are doing so I can try it; the chicks aren't cutting it-I am BORED.

Hey Theresa, I remember those Hershey Sisters. Thay would come into the store (Woolsworth) and go through everything. one year thay lost a ring on the bargin table. thay had the Manger of the store looking all over the place just to find it.    the Hershey Sister were so funny, thay were like little children.

Jim Rumsey, I'm asking for a friend. The tuft of hair is it attached to the cap or your head ??? LOL

Good to see you. I've missed at Raley's on my monthly visit.

Kay Most (Chapman) (1962)

We moved away from Woodland the summer of my h.s. graduation (1962), but I well remember that wonderful old home.  If I remember right, they used to have a few iron deer in their front yard.  I was sad in later years when I heard it had been demolished.  Nice to see the photos you shared.

Louise Blizard (Thompson) (1966)

I do remember the Hershey home. My father, Bill Blizard, was a cop for many years in Woodland. When the home caught fire, my dad came home and told me that it had horseless carriages and old cars that burned in the fire. Their house was always the spooky house.

Kay, I believe the house you are talking about with all the animals was across Main Street from the Hershey house. It was the Richie house. In my early years at WHS, we used to have paper drives. Freshman year,1956-1957, a few of us went to the sisters and asked if they had any old newspapers for the paper drive. They gave us all the ones in the carriage house. It took a flatbed to get them and we won the drive. You can imagine how many times I wished we had saved some of those newspapers.

Joan:  Those newspapers would have been priceless with the history!!   I have notes that David N. Hershey in 1892 founded the Farmers and Merchants Bank; Corner of Main and Second Streets.  He married Ella L. Flournoy; their children were:  Cornelia, Davidella, May, Grace Hartan, David Newcomer, and Florence.  Their home was originally the Laugenour house; owned my Henry and Sarah Laugenour, then William and Irma Laugenour.  It was in 1906 that David and Ella Hershey purchased the home, they also re-built the Woodland Opera House.  The two Hershey daughters, Davidella and Florence lived in the home until 1960s; before going into assisted care.   Wish that Hershey home could have been saved and used as a historical home.

My 2 cents about the Hershey sisters. In the 60s, the rumor was that neither of the sisters ever married because their father prohibited it in his will, stateing that they would forfeit the house if they did so. To my knowledge they never married. But how would any of my young friends know about the will? Hmmm? Anyone else hear that rumor?

My girlfriend, Tuni Gravink, whoes father did the books for the Hershey sisters, has a lot of hands-on-information about the Hershey house.  She use to go there while her father did the books at the kitchen table.  Tuni said that is true about the sisters not getting married, due to being disinherited.
