Yes Dan, I kept that "Press Clipping" myself from the paper and look at it once in a while.............Those were the days.........Glad your doing well...................Another front, I too I'm glad that the ones who lived longer than I in Woodland have shared old history and photos of it.......Marrying Vicki and her family having lived in both Woodland and Yolo for years, she can remember different things from the past....I was a transplant from Sacramento in 59, so my memories start there...............Thanks every one for the shares.......................I look forward to seeing/hearing more till the string runs out.............................

Tom Stewart, those photo's are great! Look how hard working they were. It shows on their faces, and to have the harder ways (but to them it was the best for them) to get around. We are spoiled with our fancy cars, and such, they had the horse drawn wagon.  What changes have come around since their time. Thanks for sharing those photo's. Tuni

Danny, you talked about your police Chief Andreozzi, was his name Ray Andreozzi?? If so, my Pops was the Captain of Police and Ray was on the force with him. Pops retired in the late 50s.

MY CONFESSION:
I don't know what the statute of limitations is on pranks, but over 50 years has elapsed, so I think I may be safe in confessing.
During lunch period at WHS, Delmer Frost (Frosty) of the Woodland police department, was talking to a bunch of us guys in the parking lot. He was on his 3 wheeler Harley Davidson motorcycle. I slipped up beside the motorcycle and removed one of the spark plug wires. After a brief time of talking to us the bell rang for us to go to class. He attempted to start (kick start) his motorcycle, but of course it wouldn't start. This was before electric starters on motorcycles. You had to jump on a crank pedal with all your weight to turn the engine over to start it. We all had to leave to get to class. When we came out of our gym class, Frosty and the motorcycle were gone. The word got around that he was going to pull us all into the police station for questioning until he found out who pulled the spark plug wire off.
I was really sweating it for a while. He never did...thanks Frosty...I owe you. But you know, considering all the things we used to do, I think Frosty had about as much fun chasing us around Woodland as we did trying to get away. Circa 1959.

Interesting subject matter Vern. I wonder if any others are willing to come forward with pranks of the past? Given the assumption that the statute of limitations has passed.

I rode my horse across the golf course once - does that count as a prank?  I mean, what's a few extra divots in all that beautiful, soft green grass, right?

Dan Ree (Ree) (1964)

Buni....yes it was Ray Andreozzi.    What was your POPS full name , I have a photo of the PD back then and I will see if he is in it.

Vern,

Yes, I remember your pulling the plug on officer Frost's cycle like it was yesterday. The log the guy's stood on at the entrance to the old parking lot was the perfect place to inspect all the girls walking back to class.

My claim to fame in high school was in Chemistry class. It was amazing that both the water pipe over the sink an the gas outlet both had fittings where you could hook up rubber hoses. If you're really fast you have already figured out that I hooked up the rubber hose from the water pipe to the gas line and turning both of them on. Since the water is a much higher pressure – 30 pounds per square inch compared to the gas at 5 pounds the water went into the gas line. This marvelous setup ran for about an hour and then I disconnected it at the end of class. The gas main and main heater for the building were drowned in water so we didn't have heat in the building – water or steam until PG&E drained the lines and they never figured it out – and I was not caught. Had the principal Mr. Johnson or vice principal Mr. Lacky found out, I would have been dead meat.

Oh, yes there are more stories out there to be told... at a later date.

Danny, My Pop's name was Captain Leonard Murphy. He liked to be called Murph or Captain. If Ray is still around, I know he would remember my dad. Another officer I remember from those days was Lambert Blaire.

Does anyone know who carried Mr. Haas VW up the stairs up to the entrance to the old WHS building on College Street?

Whoa!  No way to compete here - I acquiesce to the professional pranksters.

Mike Miller (1966)

Don, we're you involved in the night we tried to hoist tires up and over the flag pole. Cops were looking for us for a couple of hours into the wee small hours of the morning. I know Gary We general was there.

Jenny, what was the name of your horse? I hope you didn't ride on the greens.

Also Don, do you remember our escapade late one night on the golf course? Stupid, me, of course you do.

Jenny Johnson (Norman) (1966)

Hi Mike, his name was Tony. You remember him?  It was all green . . . (sorry, not a golfer)  : )

Tuni Gravink (House) (1964)

Ray Anderozzi was the officer at the school i went too, and he gave us a ride home a couple of times. He was always friendly and nice too everyone. My dad liked him. He was our officer on duty at Gibson school for awhile too. I can remember back to schools having officers assigned to some of the schools. Tuni Gravink -House

Yes, I was there for the tires and I definitely remember the "golf course" incident. I had to have my right knee replaced in June of last year as a result of it.

                                          MORE OF MY CONFESSIONS:

Darrell Allen and I were riding our bikes down East street while a painting crew were painting the white lines down the middle. It was just too tempting for two 13 year olds. We straddled the white lines and rode on the wet paint until we got to Gibson Rd and turned West.  We didn't get more than a couple of blocks when a construction guy in a pickup pulled us over.  We still had white paint on our tires. He chewed us out real good but let us go. Whew!  Circa: 1956  The summer after 8th grade.

Thanks Dan, If it's early 50's Pops should be in the picture. I remember seeing a group picture in front of the court house but I guess my brother has that. I love having picts of Pops in his uniform. He was very proud to be a cop. He was happiest as my Pops and being a cop.

Don Hooker (1965)

Here is what happened to the Hooker brothers Ron and Don. We were in the fourth or fifth grade at Gibson School and went to the school on our bikes to play on Saturday. Here comes Bobby Geer out of nowhere carring a lariat rope. He says you are on private property and throws the rope around me before I know it. I'm trying to get the rope off me and here comes Ron my brother and tackles Bobby. We knew of Bobby Geer he lived in the large white house across from Gibson School.

WHAT ARE SOME FUN PRANKS YOU WERE AWARE OF OR PARTICIPATED IN?

Terry Morris and I were bucking hay in the hay fields around Knights Landing and hauling it to a pellet mill in Sutter Basin to have it processed into cow feed.  We were driving a fully loaded hay truck down the highway with 100 bales of hay weighing between 7 & 8 tons.  We got the bright idea to tie a rope around my waist and the other end to the front bumper of the truck.  We put the truck in the lowest granny gear and let it idle slowly down the highway while I was out in front appearing to be pulling the truck while Terry was at the side pushing and steering.  A kind elderly lady pulled along side us in a Cadillac and said, "You poor boys, can I be of any assistance".  Terry thanked her and said, "That's ok, we just have another 5 miles to go."  Terry and I still laugh about that every time we get together. Circa 1959

Vern  now that you're probably the age of that little old lady ,you must  feel bad for her right ? Not. And why didn't you pull Frosty's plug wire when he was chasing me. Boy I got tired of that three wheeler in my  rear view mirror. Of course I did nothing to deserve being followed.
