Yes Greg, We lived there in an adjouning house from 1947 - 1964, and at that time it was a grocery store with 2 gas pumps and 1 karosene pump. My little brother Eldon, WHS 1964, along with Darrell Nelson, Gary Ivey, Phil Rosaco, and a few others built a 3 level tree house in the giant oak tree in the field in back of the store.  The tree was cut down some time in the late 60's. I don't know how many chain saw blades they destroyed because the tree trunk was filled with lead.  We used it as a back stop for shooting our 22's, 410's, 16 guage, 12 guage, and a 300 savage rife at. That will teach them for destroying my little bro's tree house.

Vern,

I sure remember that store at Cache Creek. Until the early 60's, I lived on road 15, across from the Wetzel family. After work, my mom would pick me up from my grandmother's house, stop by Tafoyas Market on East Street and then head home. Your store seemed like an oasis, being next to the Creek. Rick Wetzel and I would ride our bikes to Yolo when we got low on ammo (BBs). Good memories!

Greg,  I'm finally returning your your message of #3279. I cannot post any pics, because I don't know how and the one I have in front of the Tip Top  is mostly me, you can't even see the building. I was married to Robert Tauzer, Jr. (class of 62) in 1965. He passed away in 2011. I talked to his mother today and regarding the 147? Third St., she said the oldest brother (Bobs uncle) Melvin George Tauzer lived there from the age of 13 to ?? He graduated from WHS in late 1930's she thinks.Brothers  Edwin Tauzer, also graduated WHS, William (Bud) Tauzer also WHS and Robert Sr. graduated 1941 or 1942.l They all farmed out on Roads 102 (Pole Line Rd.) and 103 between Woodland and Davis for years. My maiden name is Wunder (class of 1964). My dad Leo Wunder was the operator of the Tip Top years ago.......what a small world, how everything comes around.

Warren Meyer was a wonderful person....a great teacher and mentor.   He  helped me get my first job at the Yolo Grocery while I was in high school.   I know he was a positive influence for many of us who graduated from WHS.   It was wonderful to see him at the 60s reunion.  Rest in Peace Mr. Meyer.

Theresa Eve (1964)

Mr. Warren Meyer, the best typing teacher with great humor.  I learned a lot from Mr. Meyer, which helped me get my job with the State of California.  As I reconnected at the Class Reunions, we shared some wonderful times.  I wrote to him through the months after the reunions.  So glad to have had those times shared.  I will never forget him.  A wonderful person and so giving in many ways.  Blessings to him and to his family.

I also enjoyed conversing with Mr. Meyer at our reunions.  He really cared for his students and was an excellent teacher.  We seem to be losing our classmates and teachers way too often now..

Mr Meyer, Rest in Peace, my friend . My story :-) I ended up in your Typing Class and you said: ":Learn the Key Board, you never know when it will come in Handy". My 18 year old mind thought "Yeah, Right, I'll never need that!!". But I did learn the Key board. Now we jump to Feb 23 1968 and I find myself in a Hawk Missile assignment in Korea, in the middle of Winter!. I had never been that cold in my warm California Life.

I figured, what do I have to lose? They drafted me, they sent me overseas, they assigned me to COLD Korea, what else do I have to lose :-) So I went to see the Base Commander - in my Private E2 life, I had never been that close to a Lt Colonel. I saluted and said: "I'm from California, do you have anything warmer". He scowled, looked at an empty desk and said: "Can you type??". I smiled, thought, "THANK YOU MR. MEYER!" and I said "YES!". His clerk had just rotated back to the States and he had no replacement. So, Mr Meyer, I spent my time in Korea in a warm building, I am so glad I got to tell you that story at our "All 60's Reunion". I have never forgotten R.I.P

Is there a wise (old) one among us who can put names to some of the 1957 B team members shown in the Warren Meyer photo? We might not know them, but instead knew of them....

WOODLAND HIGH B TEAM: 1957    COACHES:  MR. MOORE,  MR. MEYER,  MR. STONE

I believe the Picture in 3314 was the 1958 Team.  The member in the right front was Don Northam, class of 61.

Bill Means (1961)

To change things, this is the picture of the WHS 1957 "B" team which I have. Players are both Sophomores and Juniors as the "B" team players were created by height and weight. There was also a separate freshman team.

First row: Jerry Nakamura, Tom Shinn, Pete Lucero, Bob Hornbuckle, Doug Koebel, Ray Edwards, Bob Danielson, Bob Wademan, Richard Pardini, Dave Dindelt, Ken Towle.

Second Row: 14, Don Cooper, Brian Crutcher, 48, Mike Wright, Dave Riegels, ??, Ed Conley, Pete Taylor, Jim Derr, Milton Lasoya.

Third Row: Willie Sackett, Brian Stout, Howard Beeman, Ernie Roncoroni, Bob Tafoya, Dean Lauderdale, Garry Warren, Harold Thomas, 29, Terry Macias, Ken Canepa, Bob Brown - manager.

Fourth Row: Coach Meyers, Bruce Falkener, Junior Hendricks, Bill Means, Richard Chambers, Jim Sherborne, Charles Witten, Rod Rohwer, Milton Shinn, Doug Liles, Ken Bennett, Coach Stone.

The names came from the Ilex, everyone changed position...

Missing are: John Concanon, Don Northon, and Mike Winn.

Coaches Meyers and Stone played everyone in every quarter - the second stringers played the last play in first and third quarter and the first play in the second and fourth quarters. Every one received a gold football with our names engraved on it strung on a gold chain, just perfect for your "going steady" girlfriend to wear around her neck. Maybe everyone should bring them out for the 55 year reunions. Two great coaches and a wonderful team making experience.

Bill, Jerry Nakamura was class of 61, Ken canapa was class of 62, that must be 58 or 59 Picture. Didn't you Graduate Beamer Class of 57?

04/12/16 01:04 PM #2598

Don Murdoch (1962)

Bill Means,

Doyle is right. This couldn't be the '57 B team. It has to be the '58 or '59 team, The football season of 1957 would have been your freshman year, as I was in the 8th grade.  Ken Canepa was in my class so could not be playing high school football in '57 as he was at Holy Rosary. In fact, this may be the '58 B team when you were a sophomore.  I think Canepa was the only freshman on the B team that year. The Class of '61 would have been sophomores for the '58  'B' football team.

I believe #48 is Cliff White and ?? is Frank Duggan. #29 looks like one of the Winn's. Also, that is not Rod Rohwer in ther back row.

04/12/16 01:22 PM #2599

Doyle Phillips (1961)

Thanks Don.  ?? is Butch Duggan.  Ken was class of 62 so it must be 59.  Didn't Maurice Terry play that year?

Is that him next to Jerry Nakamura or next to Butch Duggan?

Greg Kareofelas (1962)

For Vern

Here is the Cache Creek Grocery, I stopped by and took a pic today. Even though it was "Open", not much was happening. The building is "Classic 1920's Gas Station/Grocery Store" . The gas pumps would have been on that outside island, where they could be accessed from the covered area if raining or out front if not. They would have been Glass Cylinder Visible Pumps originally, wish I could have been around to take a pic then :-)

Doyle,

Maurice Terry was in my class and played Freshman football that year. (1958)

JUST WHO ARE THESE GUYS? . . .

Front Row, Left-to-right -  Warren Meyer, Dave Kindelt in shoulder pads,  Fred Stone,  Don Northam.

2nd Row -   Face peaking over Warren Meyer's left shoulder is Ed Marquez,  face between Fred Stone and Don Northam is Bob Miramontes.

Top Row, Left-to-right -  Dick Ward,   Ken Towel,   John Copeland,   Dick Pardini with shoulder pads.

Special thanks to: Elvis Kelly, Don Murdoch, Doyle Phillips and Joan Richter in the identification of players.

Don Murdoch (1962)

I believe this is the 1957 'B' team. Gary Traynam and Ed Marquez are in the photo and they both graduated in 1959 making them juniors here and Jerry Nakamura and Ken Towle are freshmen.  Traynam and Marquez were starters on the 1958 varsity.

Kara Danielson (1962)

My brother, Robert Danielson, was on the Football Team when WHS won their second championship and the following year they won again making it three in a row.  They all received a gold football on a chain to be worn around their necks.  That was an amazing time.

Robert, What was confusing, or missleading was the Article 3333 November 16, 1957 Game was the

Graduating Class of 1958.  Article 3334 November 22, 1958 Game was the Graduating Class of 1959.

Football Started in the Fall but you did not graduate until Summer.
