Craig;

From most of the posts that I have read, I am afraid that you are correct.  It is hard to accept that my classmates can ignore the FACTS when they stare them in the face.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

Theresa,

Nice cookies. When our girls were little I would cover a small flashlight with red paper and place it outside in the back yard. They would stand at the glass door and see Rudolph and get so excited. I would go outside, dressed in dark clothing so as not to be detected and dance around with flashlight in hand as if Rudolph was moving. This year we have our 2 year old visiting and my daughter mentioned to him that she sure hoped Rudolph would visit. As I understand it, he will be making an appearance this evening for the first of a couple times before Christmas

The mind of a child is a wonderous thing at Christmas, whether that child be 2 or 68.

Wonderful memories Theresa and Mike! I loved helping my mom build in our front yard on West Street her vision of a Christmas card to all of Woodland. She would have a pic and transpose it to the front yard. A train with Santa and toys coming down the tracks, or a lake with bunnies skating around a snow scene. I loved listening to the music on our phonograph on the porch. Love riding in the back of my dads Chevy truck singing Christmas carols all through town. Go, go Brownies! We had a blast!

CraigI don't think any american citizen born in this country knows what it feels like to be a slave. I am assuming that probably all slaves who were slaves in america have probably passed on by this time. Correct me if I am wrong.

Craig. I to sympathise with most illegals

I understand why they come here like you said mostly ecnomics.

My son in laws family came here illegaly because when the government in ElSalvador fell to the rebbels his father was a solder working with the USA and when we pulled out the new government began hunting down all the ex millitary personel and killing them.Once they were here they were granted political assilum.I have no problem with any person from any country coming to the USA as long do it legaly.

We don;t need a wall, the government has the ability to monitor and secure the border north and south and detect a rabbit crossing the border if they wish, but so far they have not. I wan't people to come here legally but to know who they are and what is their beliefs and intentions so they can enjoy all the freedoms we do.

I do believe a country without borders is not a country.

Rember Europe tried open borders and how has that worked out for them?

Mr. Mike Miller, thank you for sharing your Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer Story!  Rudolph is my very favorite Christmas character.  When I was about six years old there was a store exhibit with Rudolph who would talk to the children as they came near the gate.  This Rudolph talked to me and I was so surprised, I still remember that moment.  I have the 50th Golden Anniversary Edition of this book, which I put out every year.  You keep those magical times alive for your grandchildren.  Yes, the gingerbread cookies are all on their way and I can now relax and enjoy the season with bright lights outside my door.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, was written by Robert L. May, January 1939.  Montgomery Ward & Co. wanted to give away a special book to children during the Christmas season.  Robert L. May, was asked to come up with some ideas, which he did.  May referred to Rudolph as "my generous son," claiming that the noble reindeer enabled him to send his six children to college.  May left Montgomery Ward in 1951 to manage Rudolph's career, but returned to the company in 1958.  He died in 1976.

Of course Dan,  I remember the Weinstock's windows at Christmas!!!  All old fashion scenes of families getting ready for Christmas, all moving; and things flying in the air.  Those displays were full of magaic.  After Weinstock's closed there was a home in South Land Park which kept some of the displays and put them up in their house each Christmas.  I would get my nieces and take them to see those "old and wonderful displays".   Love the history of your family and the tailor in the Porter Building.  Dad always took his suits to a tailor in Sacramento  on J Street to have them adjusted.  What an art tailoring is!!!

I enjoyed the Rudolph's nose flashlight story.  Very creative and great memories for your family.  I am going to share that with some friends who have little ones.

On the Christmas display, I think it was Breuners's on Kay St. where the great window displays were.  I also took my kids by the house in Land Park to see the displays.  I remember walking by those way back when they were downtown.  So happy they were saved and wonder where they are now.

Our grandmother in Nebraska would always send us a Christmas box each year.  We always looked forward to it because it had a big cloth bag of Nebraska popcorn, a box of chocolate covered cherries, some new decks of cards, and, of course, our presents.  She always gave us pajamas and we looked forward to getting them each year.  I always give my grandchildren pajamas too, just like grandma did.

Merry Christmas to all.

Justene:  It was Bruners' but Weinstocks had a few also, not as grand.  Those were the days.  Nice to think back on those big stores where people actually helped you like Brites.  Most of Christmas is done, but a few more cookies and cards to get out the door.  Off to yoga class now.  All enjoy the Season and smile often to everyone you meet.  A smile says a million good blessings.

Craig;  I suppose that you are correct, that there are classmates out there that are more reasonable, but don't want to get involved.  I probably will not be posting too often as I have found, as you probably have found, it is next to impossible to reason with a Trump supporter.  We are stuck with Trump for four years but I predict that those who voted for Trump because they have lost a job in manufacturing but believed that Trump would bring those jobs back to the US are going to be sadly disappointed.  Trickle down economics just do NOT work and will only lead to a recession.  This is what happened under Regan and Bush.  Feliz Navidad!

Thanks for the Christmas story Mike.  A few years ago my oldest grandson, Jake, was walking home from school and some of the older kids with him were saying how there was no Santa.  This was pretty hard for him to take so when he got home he cornered mom ( my daughter) and asked about Santa.  So she told him and he was pretty broke up about it.  After a while he asked her," mom,... does dad know?"

To all those Trumpsters I leave you this year with a quote from Mark Twain...

"It's easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled"

Hey mike. you have to realize the way you feel about Trump the Trump supporters feel the same way about HRC.If the Democrats would have ran Biden or someone else I most likley would have voted for them.

Take heart my friend no matter what happens we will survive this together.

Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

DITTO right back at you Mike. Fooled by the big Clinton clan! (criminals each and every one. As a small business owner, we have been left out in the cold for the last 8 years.

Linda....very Ditto on your remarks........WE do know the outcome for 2017.......A lot better....more smiles and a safe America......and last but a richer America....USA MADE......I want to say Merry Christmas to the Men and Women serving in the Military.......and to think about those that served in the past and did not return and a big Salute to our WW 2 Military...They Fought for our Freedom and real Peace in America......when the enemy attacked our Country.......................

People...what the heck are you talking about? Clinton is out of the picture, and probably rightly so, so why even mention her name? Hard to say at the time who was the worst of the two evils. Trumps cabinet picks are a joke. Have you even done a basic check of credentials? It's pay back time. His flipant remarks about "nukes" in the last two days scare the crap out of me, along with Putin's similar remarks regarding beefing up nukes.  His trying to be President before he takes the oath, embarrases me.

Does all this not concern you in any friggin' way?

This is not, believe me, a case of sour grapes on my part.

So why did you vote for him? Was it the wall, jobs, security, muslim ban, sending illegals back to Mexico, a promise to lock jer up? Why? Please don't take me wrong. I am just curious.

He is back tracking on all that.

John Michael Somero (1967)

Mike, serveral of the things you mention were important to me, but number one for me was the pro-life position he claims to support, directly opposite of the HRC stance.  My wife and I adopted a child scheduled to be aborted in the mother's eighth month of pregnancy, and what a blessing she is!  She recently gave us our 7th grandchild, and she and her family are such a joy in our lives.  With tens of millions of lives snuffed out for mainly selfish reasons, I was so thankful to have a candidate willing to fight for these voiceless victims....

12/23/16 01:47 PM #3214

Monte McCray (1966)

Mike. I believe that people voted for Trump because of the promises made to the people in office that were never carried out.

Also this Administration has not been kind to business large or small in the oppinion of a lot of people.

No matter who is in office they are going to scare the hell out of some people.

We will never vote in anyone who satisfies everyone but Trump won with the system we have in place, so for the next four years all we can do is wait and watch.

By the way, even though I voted for him I am not all that comfortable with the outcome.

It's almost Christmas and it is appropriate to be thankful for what I have.  In addition to family and friends and health and a pantry full of good things to eat there are a few things that are unique to this year:

I am thankful for a president elect whom I believe will lead this nation to a prosperous and better future.

I am thankful for the talented people who have agreed to serve us in his administration.

I am thankful for the voters who decided that conservative values, fiscal responsibility and USA first is a better path.

I am thankful for Harry Reid retiring and making possible the opening of the "Harry Reid Memorial" nuclear waste facility.

I am thankful for Nancy Pelosi, Keith Ellison, Micheal Moore and many more for defining so elegantly the lefts manners and agenda.

I am thankful for Hillary Clintons gracious concession speech, my only Christmas wish.

It will be a very merry Christmas
