Lee Dumars May 12, 1937 - March 9, 2018
He was born on May 12, 1937, to Frances (Nelson) and Theo Dumars. He leaves behind his sister, Arlene Callaghan (Chuck), of San Mateo, and brother, Bruce Dumars (WHS 1967) (Sandy) (WHS 1968), of Woodland. Lee attended Dingle Elementary School and graduated from Woodland High in 1955. He attended U.C. Davis.
He then entered the U.S. Navy where he worked in the engine room of the Samuel N. Moore Destroyer and toured Japan and the Pacific. Upon returning, Lee left for Europe where he worked on an English farm. He traveled extensively to many countries, putting over 10,000 miles on his Vespa. Of all the places, Lee was especially fond of Spain. He returned to enter his lifelong career in farming, forming Lenell Farms with Bernell Harlan. Both men later joined their fathers and farmed as Harlan & Dumars, Inc. Lee became his family's third generation California farmer, spending over 50 years in the business.
After a whirlwind courtship, Lee married Louise Ricci, on Nov. 5, 1960, a love that lasted over 57 years. Together they had a daughter, Denise Morbit (Johnny) of Little Rock, AR, and a son, David Dumars (Karen) of Woodland.
Lee was a devout member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He and his family spent a lot of summertime at their South Lake Tahoe family cabin.
A Vigil for Lee will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., on Monday, March 19, at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will also be at Holy Rosary Church on Tuesday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m., followed by his burial at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, 798 West Street, with a reception following.
The family would especially like to thank Lee's attending physicians, Dr. Stacy Berrong, Dr. Alborz Alali, and Dr. Richard Beyer, and his very special night caregiver, Gracie Santillan. But we are comforted by his great Catholic Christian faith and the peace of knowing he will be in Heaven with our Lord, Jesus Christ: "To Infinity, and Beyond". In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Rosary Building fund, Holy Rosary School, and Yolo Hospice.
