Fran, you are so correct.  The special on Channel 6, Rob on the Road offered a very nice special on the Chicago Cafe history ran by one family. What a great family tradition of creating good chinese foods. The back door is always used as I remember.  Do hope the family will stay in business.

Attention Class of 1964: at Rick Gonzales request, I have posted the  pages with your senior class pictures from the 1964 Ilex in the "Portal to Class Pages/Class of 64".  Didn't we all scrub up nice for those pictures?  Just click on "Portal to Class Pages in the left hand panel and scroll down to Class of '64 (and remembe the good old days).

Enjoy.

Regarding Chicago Cafe. Unfortunately, my cousin Paul and his wife, Nancy, are looking towards retirement in the next year or so. His daughter and son are set in their profession and will not be taking over the restaurant.

In all the times that I've eaten at Chicago Cafe, I've never entered thru the front door. My favorite dish is their chow mein because it has bean sprouts.

I just ate there a couple of weeks ago. My brother, Buck, and his wife, Teresa, host an annual dinner for her college friends. This year, they had it at the Chicago Cafe. They took this opportunity to have a family dinner so my sisters, Maedell and Mae Jean, were there, too.

Like Frances mentioned, you can find their Rob On the Road story on YouTube. Just search for "Rob on the Road".

Thank you for sharing your family information.  We have never met but I wanted to share a bit of information with you.  My father, mother and I have eaten at the Chicago Cafe for many years and loved the food.  I remember my mother and I went to early dinner before catching a movie at the State Theatre.  My ordered a beer and the person taking our order asked if I want a beer.  Mind you, I was probably 14 or 15 years old at the time, but I always looked older than my age.  My mom and I had a great laugh over that.  My father used to take boxes of asparagas to the cafe when in season and your family always served him free dinners.  Great place. Thank you for sharing.

In Honor of Veterans Day, Arthur Nicholas Albert Eve, Chief Warrant Officer, 13th Armored Division, World War II,  Picture taken while in France. Wanting to make the Army his career, but because of being color blind, he could not move up the ranks.  However, he did well as being a Principal and teacher to many.  Honor to all who have given for our country for our freedom and democracy.

Great Idea to post some WWII memories for Veteran's Day, Theresa! Here is my Dad, Jim, at Templehof Air Base, Berlin 1945. Playing on some broken Nazi airplane

Greg, love your Dad's picture from World War II, so many brave service people, and service dogs.  Those open airplanes were hard to fly, no climate control.  In Honor for their service, freedom and Democracy.  To our service people of today. The work in our country for these rights continues each day, 2024.

And Burce's obituary is in the "In Memory" section.  That is a little easier to find as time marches on.

Just read about Bruce Baily's life and his many accomplishments.  He was quiet an educator.  He did extend his teachings to many, and to his family.  I remember him from Woodland High School.  A life well lived.  Blessings.

Ron Blickle (1963)

I was in Sequoia Hall Dormitory at Cal Poly getting ready to go to class when we heard the news on a radio in a friends dorm room.  At first we thought it was a very bad joke by the local disc jockey.  We listened intently and it became very obvious that it was no joke.  Many student s were just wandering aroung the campus when the announcement came over loudspeakers that classes were cancelled for the rest of the week and school would be closed down.  I rode home to Woodland with Pete Foster and spent the weekend with my family in mourning.  We were all glued to our TVs in disbelief.  That is one event that none of us will ever forget.

Ron, we were all in shock.  Yes, our television was on all week watching this story unfold.  I have the original Life magazines covering this 1963 event of our President John Kennedy with his family,  Remains sad.

A Christmas Past, 1950s before the Eve family moved back to Woodland.  Just started building the home on 6 North McKinley. We were living in Dixon, California, visiting my Aunt June, who lived in an apartment on Walnut Street.  She is in her nurses uniform ready to go to the Woodland Clinic, head night nurse.  Mother was pregnant with JoAnne.  Dad had just been duck hunting. I have fur slippers-shared by Valerie Hunt the little girl in the blue. I was in the second grade in Dixon. Maybe share some Christmas pictures, years ago.

Sorry, Theresa.  Your Christmas photos of old is a nice idea, and I did find one, but I don't seem to have a clue as to how to add it on to this page from my Google photos.  Looking at these old memories (mine was from 1953) does indeed take us right back to that time and place in our past.  Happy holidays to all...
