It's really nice seeing all the different posts and memories posted lately! It took me a bit to get it, but here is a 1905 Postcard with another view of the old Woodland High School (after the original college moved away)

Here is an early Easter Sunday, at 6 North McKinley.  House had just been built.  I am holding my sisster JoAnne.  There is my cousin Judy Fessel and a good friend Val Hunt.  These were the days of no worries.  Parents took care of everythng. Looking back at carefree days.

Theresa, do you remember our family next door to you guys for about a year in 1960?

Ron, of course I remember you, your sister and brother; and your parents.  Those were nice times.  Nice to hear from you.  I have seen a few of your post on our forum.  JoAnne lives in Benson Arizona.  She has a Son, Rowdy who is in the FBI, Alexis, PhD, living in New Mexico; and Annie who lives in Benfield, Texas and is the head pastry chef of Greah bake haus..

More sad Yolo news to share: Bill Hatcher ('66) passed away Fri. Mar. 21st. Warm friend to so many-dad and Grandpa, deputy sheriff, horseman and traveler, baseball player and solid member of his community. Service will be in late April.

I am so so sorry and sad to learn of Bill Hatcher passing.  He took care of Mary's Chapel in the best of ways.  Bless him and his family.

Class of 1964, here is a picture of two of our classmates from their wedding 1965:  I saved this in my scrapbook.  John Tauzer and Mahala O'Brian married November 20th, 1965.  Mahala's Mother made her lovely wedding dress.  Mahala just informed me that John Tauzer has been ill.  I am sending Mahala this picture.

Joann I am sorry you had a bad experience. My parents had sold the Brownie isometiime in 1961 or 1962  I think it  was Tim who owned it then

Woodland Senior Softball

The Jack Slaven Senior Softball League mourns the passing of longtime player Billy Hatcher. Billy was a mainstay on the Navy Blue team. Playing more than 20 years in the senior league Billy was a joy to share the dugout with. Rest in Peace Billy.

May be an image of 4 people

Thank you.  Bill Hatcher had many talents.  He had a lovely home with horse barns near Marys Cemetary, of which is also cared for.

I just saw a bit of information on this forum that Ron Branigan is having a birthday. Ron and I worked together at Springlake Fire Dept. years ago, and in case you haven't heard, Ron passed away on March 12 of this year. He'd had a long battle with cancer. I'm sorry to have to tell this.

This is an illustration of the building that would become the Woodland High School, when it was still Hesperian College. What is "strange" is the students look like little kids, not College Age :-) The image is from the 1879 History of Yolo County

50 Years ago today the Vietnam War came to an end. 58,000 Americans died there and possibly a million Vietnamese also died.

No offense but you could have picked a better pic than that. So many memories, some of which don't need to be remembered by such a sight.

I hear you, Mike, but will say this is better than the one of the naked young girl screaming from being napalmed.

No matter how you look at it, all wars are terrible; for all people, those within the country and those who are sent to assist in fighting for freedom.  As it is stated, "After the war, many forget what it was all about.", from Gone with the Wind. Each generation has had the experience of the loss.  The damage is never forgotten.

I recall pictures of the end of WW 2. The elation, the dancing in the streets. The homecoming finally realized by those that served. The flag waving.
And then I recall the time I spent, along with so many others, in Vietnam. 365 days of fear and confusion. But 365 days of duty and honor.
I recall lifting off from Cam Rahn Bay in 1970 in a Pan Am Freedom Bird. The captain made an announcement a few minutes after takeoff, " Gentlemen, we have now left Vietnamese airspace" I recall the plane roaring with the sound of men (one year earlier we were all just boys) shouting for joy. Tears for joy that can never be expressed except in our memories. And then silence. And the sound of men sobbing, retrospective sobbing.
We landed at SeaTac early morning for transport to Fort Lewis. We were greeted with signs of baby killers, and go back we don't want you here. WTF? Where was the dancing in the streets? Where were the girls wanting to kiss you and welcome you home with open arms? And the years go by and we eventually tucked that WTF feeling away. And now, 50 years later the celebration of the wars end is commemorated with that picture posted on my high school website. I'm sorry but WTF? You just don't get it, and never will. Unless you had that retrospective sob on a plane coming home a thousand years ago.

Very well spoken, Mike.  From one Vet to another, "Welcome Home!"

Mike you are correct.  Vietnam was a war of which our service people were not given the highlight of honor and glory for a mission many have not recovered. Plus many have not received benefits.  It is a sad story  Let us honor those today who gave on the Vietnam War.  Thank you Mike.  In Honor of Arthur Miramontez, a handsome student my Mother had and always admired.
