Greg, Larry and Rick, nice to reflect upon your individual memories with Terry Lacky.  Always hard to learn that one of our classmates has passed.

Greg, I always remember the Elkhorn Ferry on the River Road!  One of the most exciting things to look for  as you drove down the River Road.  Thank you for the ferry picture.

Some Woodland History. This mansion once stood on the Southwest corner of Main and Walnut. When built in 1886, at a cost of $12,000 it rivaled the Gable Mansion as one of the largest in the Sacramento Valley. Built for A Porter, it stood until the 1930's when it was torn down and replaced with a Gas Station. Image is from a vintage postcard

Greg, love the old home mansion.  The dirt roads look so difficult. Glad to have paved roads.

You correct Theresa, we are lucky that the Gable Mansion survived and we get a chance to visit it on some of the "Woodland History Events".

In memory of Bill Hatcher, here is a kindergarten picture with the background made by Mrs. Bonnie Wetzel the Yolo Cachville School Kindergarten teacher.  Her friends pictured are:  Bill Hatcher, Diane Morris, Debbie Wetzel and John Jackson.  Good memories to hold.  About 1958.

I saw a 1937 Ford a couple of days ago and was reminded of a friend from Woodland. He passed just a little over ten years ago. "Philly" Marquez had a cute little 1937 Ford coupe. Even though he was not in my class of 1962, but he was from Class of1963, I got to know him when he worked at the Richfiled Gas Station and then for the Ford Dealership on Elm Street. Does anyone know what happened to his 1937 Ford Coupe? of maybe post a picture of it

Theresa,

Thank you for posting the photos of the Gable Mansion at 659 First Street. When I was attending WHS (1961-1964), my family lived in the parsonage at 650 Second Street, on the "back side" of the Gable Mansion. The sole occupant was Mrs. Gable, and my younger sister Janese, age 5-7, used to visit Mrs. Gable frequently. I don't think I ever went into the mansion in those years, but I understood that most of the rooms were closed off and Mrs. Gable occupied only a few. However, my wife Nancy and our friend Chris Scrivani attended the "Stroll through History" Historic Homes Tour on October 7, 2023 and were able to visit the "Barrow Home-Gable Mansion." As many members of WHS60s know, the present owners, Jeff and Starr Barrow, have lovingly and magnificently restored the Gable Mansion. It's truly a work of art.

I think I posted this photo a while back? I took this black and white photo in 1971 when the Gable Mansion looked like it did as we walked by it on the way to High School.

Does anyone have any memories or photos of events held at Nelson's Grove. It is located a little North of Woodland on the way to Knights Landing. It was before your crossed Cache Creek, off to the left. A Grove of Oak Trees.

Thanks Anna! I remember my dad and and Uncle John saying there was a "Dance Floor" there at one time? I think it was before our time.  Hopefully someone might have a photo or something!

Greg, was the Grove before or after the Nelson Store?

I remember having to pour all our beer out on the ground when the sheriff showed up at Nelson's Grove.

Hi Doyle, going north from Woodland, Nelson's Grove was a left turn on the road just before you got to the "Cache Creek Store" just before the bridge over Cache Creek. I took a pic of the Cache Creek Store and when I find it, I'll post the pic. I think that is what you mean by "Nelsons Store?

Doyle Phillips (1961)

Sorry Greg, my bad. I meant Larson Store. I would see Vern there some times. His brother Eldon was class 64.
