Tom - I was also in MYF, '62-'66, along with Joel, Mary H., Mike Miller & his sister, Judy W., Tom E., Gary W. and a lot of others. Great memories! I also remember Frank Norris. I think he left Woodland around '65 didn't he?

Tuni, Sorry to hear of your loss. I pray you are comforted by family and friends at this time. Glad you wrote what you did. It was encouraging.  I too am out of state but love to hear and see how Woodland is growing. My dad told me there are three WalMarts in that area alone. I just would like to see pics of how the town has grown.  I have been gone since 1984.

So many of us were touched by the MYF.

Happy and safe travels.

Craig, Religions are man made differences in man's thoughts of what they think God is saying to us. God's inspired Word is the Bible. God wants us to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. We must come to Him by giving our heart, mind, and soul to His authority. Relying on reading the Bible, praying, and listening to what God directs. That means stop and listen and know that He is God. I pray for your heart to be opened by God to His Word.

Greetings fellow classmates, I just received word from my older brother Vern.  I guess he was ridding a horse and fell off getting his foot stuck in the stirrup.  He thought he was going to die, but the Walmart security guy saw what happened and came over and unplugged the horse.  I'm so greatful, this year is starting off so much better than last year.  I wish everyone a Happy New Year, and let's all avoid the hospitals.

I have to think that my years in MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship) helped prevent me from going totally off the deep end in the late 60's - early 70s. Rev. Frank Norris was "the man" at the Methodist church during our childhood years. I remember also Rev. Vice and his wife Una. Seriously. Una Vice. Who could forget that name. For those who talk like we're near the end, think about this: my mother, Clare, 89, is still active in the Woodland Methodist church; and I drive my wifes mother, Charlotte, 91, to bingo and hair appointments. So, no excuses. Get out and do what you enjoy, now.

Just stopped by to see who is posting and what is being posted...........I peeked at the Methodist storys...........Vicki, (my wife ) was a Methodist when I met her, I think the whole family was, anyway, when time came to get married, her mother wanted her to get married in the Methodist Church there in Woodland.  I didn't care, I just wanted to get married.....(Dec 66)......Long story short, the preacher at the time was (I think) a Rev Baker, and was personal friends of the Haydens at the time............Does that name ring any bells with anyone?

Hi Joel - I also like to think MYF helped me stay out of too much deep water, not that I didn't get into some muddy water once in awhile. Great to hear about your Mom and Mom-in-law!  Great advice - keep on keepin' on!

Hi Duane - I don't remember a Rev. Baker but I remember you and Vicki! Please tell her hi for me. Thanks!

I remember a Rev. Baker, in Yolo, California.  I believe he was the last Methodist minister at that small church, which has now been torn down. (I have a picture of the church in the background, taken with my Mother holding JoAnne, my sister had just been born.)   He came with his large family and lived in the white house next to the church and across the street from Cacheville School.  Just recall that he had several sons.  That is all I can rmember about him.

Jenny...Vicki sez howdy back.................She and her sister Cindy both remember the Bakers from Yolo.........I'm thinking the Haydens go back along time in Yolo, before they moved into town...........Me I moved to Woodland in 59 when my mother re-married Jim Martin, the Fire Marshall and then he became the Fire Chief for sometime......I lived on Second street for a short time then we moved to College, then out to a house by Gibson road, then back to Third Street, and finally back to College, where we stayed until I joined the Army......That is the one I call my family home to this day.....That house is still there to this day................

Kumbayah...or the eqivalent...Tho you forgot Mike an Pat Davis...fellow acolytes at the time...appreciate your response...well thought...Tho neither of us merits this much attention (cheers in agreement)...writing style?...well adverbs are nouns...Prediacates can be...Ah, screw it...Religion,Politics...avoid at family Holiday gatherings...I get it...But, each to his own...Whatever Floats yur Boat...Viva La freedom

You are correct about the Davis fraternal twins alias Alan and Glen, though I never served at the altar with them. Their mother was my first grade teacher at Dingle Elementery School.  I really liked her.

Writing style? . . .  I don't care as long as I can understand you and make myself understood.

I was an English Lit major in college and read and dealt with so many writing styles that what I stuck with was what Hemingway said, "When the critics praise you and you believe them, you are forced to believe them when they don't like what write and how you write." (paraphrase) . . . and you are 'toast'.  The critics own you and you are no longer free. Yeah . . . 'Viva La freedom' as long as it is not license i.e. excessive or undue freedom or liberty.

In my family we never avoided the topics of relligion, politics, philosophy, science, art, economics,  or any of the subsets of those disciplines. I learned a great deal especially when we had guests. If someone asked a question, there was always an attempt to answer, no matter how unpleasant or disagreeable the response. It was rarely if ever personal but always fun, enjoyable and enlightening.

As to whether we 'merit this much attention' . . . we merit as much as any one in the Alumni on this web site, otherwise . . . "what's the point?"

Too many people do not talk with one another anymore .  . . always  on their cell phones, watching TV, lost and isolated in their self-imposed exile from social life, social dialogue or just expecting others to entertain them, offering nothing in return.

If someone does not like what is written here, stop reading the writer and just ignore him/her . . .  turn the channel . . .  go for a walk or engage someone and then jump back in with something to say, something to share, something to learn and grow.

A number of you are discussing "MYF".  Was that part of the United Methodist Church or The Free Methodist Church?

Hey Tom Stewart - I went back over all your posts and find that I have not disagreed with anything that you have contributed in regards to the the 'Message Forum':   the topics, manner of and in discussion of topics, and the dangers and pitfalls that may beset us should we venture into emotionally charged topics where we may regret what we write, hurting others as well as ourselves.

Thanks for your always  thoughful contributions, laced with contemporary wisdom that offer us with guideposts to keep us on the right path.

There are many people who have contributed much to making this website as successful as it is, and we all know the names of the main players. There is one, however, who I have recently become more aware of through his contributions in posting many obituaries in the "In Memory" section and I am grateful to him for doing so.  Thank you Robert Cowing for your dedication and good work..

Vern - the gentle soul of our web site.

You are welcome.  Wish I could do more in this area, so many people who who are known to have died but no record/obituary available.  I currently use the Social Security Index, Ancestry.com, Obit Archives.com and the Yolo County Obituary Index run by two dedicaed local individuals, I think.  If anyone has other sources that would be of help, please don't hesitate to write. Thank you.

Steve Takimoto, enjoyed the 1/17 post of memory photos of times gone by, from Lois.

Lois, you are an inspiration.  Thank you for sharing your life story.  It gives us all a pause for thought; about what is really important in life.  God bless you.

Thomas, my lad . . . you are not the first to suggest such a "medication" for whatever people may think is wrong with me . . . but rather than risking the ire of the "wee-people" in your area, your recent habit of  . . . .  " ' Criminal Minds' and 'Horders' " is a scarey option that I will forgo for now, or at least until I get a chance to meet you face-to-face to compare my piles of junk, paper, tools to yours !

Thanks on the denomination identification.

Yes, that would be the United Methodist Church. I, too, am enjoying the craic of this forum. (Is that the right use of the term, Tom?)  BTW, I noticed that Donegal Town has a fun and informative website. Great history and pictures.  Are you related to the famous Irish Thomas Stewart of the 1640's?

LOL  Hard time? Yikes!   But then who could turn their nose up at a cuppa tae and craic in Ireland?!  The history about the famine and the relief from Austrailia was very interesting.  How's the church planting going?

Becky Knight (Tobitt) (1961)

I've been out of touch for a bit, so have been catching up on everyone's postings. MYF in Woodland was a regulary Sunday night activity for me because I could drive into town those evenings. The Agees and Cantrells were active in our group, as well as Adele James, Bob Brown, Steve Pearson, Don Mcclontock, Sue Osborne. Our first exchange student came from Strutgard, Germany and lived with the Agees. Frank Norris passed away several years ago. He was one of the ministers who married my husband and me in 1964. After he left Woodland, he was in Lodi for some time. Bruce Baker was the minister at the Yolo Methodist Church for several years, serving Yolo and Knight's Landing (no relation!). He had been a truck driver before he was called to the ministry. He was a very kind man who lived his faith. There were times I got drafted to play for church services when the regular pianist, Elkla Jenks, was sick or had a rare vacation. Harry Vise served Knight's Landing after Yolo was cosed. My Aunt Ivy went there for many years after Yolo closed.

Mary Knight Davis was my Dad's niece, Pat and Mike, my cousins. Haven't heard from them in years, hope all is well with them

Great prank with the record player, Tom.  All this time I thought the church bells really played !  I am sorely disappointed I missed the Beatles rendention. Knowing a little about Rev. Norris' reputation and character, I doubt if he really minded. He was a good guy.

The kids on the block where I lived were all MYF members -- Jane Wharton, Mike Miller, Lucretia Ferry and nearby neighbors Judy and Pam Wohlfom, Steve Garcelon, Gary and Scott Wegener and I recall Malcolm and Jane Pearson, Gil and Carolyn Yule, Lois Takimoto, Terry Tagliarini, Kathy Fowler, Joan Tauzer and Linda Jenks We had a Spaghetti Dinner every year and worked in a two-story booth at the county fair selling hamburgers. I do recall that the kids in MYF were very smart and active kids. I wonder what hapened to all those kids.

Tom Stewrt, loved the photo you put on. That is beautiful. I can see why one would live in the area.  My husbands family went to that area, and looked up some of their relatives, and loved it there! Tuni Gravink-House
