If you haven't taken the "26 Feb 2023 SURVEY on a possible WHS60's reunion in 2023", please do so (See the second item in the left panel of our website).   The results will be discussed at the April 5th 4pm info meeting at Bella Via Realty.

Jim:  It is pretty amazing that you and others were able to come out of that Vietnam War safely.  You all did a great job for our County.  Thank you.

Thank you Theresa,   My Cousin David Ferns was the first in our Woodland Family to go to Vietnam as an Infrantry man who used to go out on Patrols looking for the NVA or VC and trying to avoid ambushes and Booby traps.  He survived and came home and now lives in the old Ferns House in Woodland.  I was the Second US Army Soldier to go over to Vietnam as I was trained as a Huey Helicopter Pilot and as such I was able to see a lot of combat from the air and the ground.  I came home and survived and now live in Elk Grove.  The last to go was my Brother Tom Barger who served in the US Army as a Signal Corps Officer on an Island off the Coast of Na Trang.  He came home and lived in Newcastle and Lincoln til his death from Cancer three years ago. March 29th we all cecebrate with "Our Brothers" that we survived and came home to continue on with our Families.

Jim:  You and your brothers were so lucky to have given of your services; and all come home safely.  What a story you have to share.  All wars are just terrible, and they keep happening in our world.   On another note of years gone by.  This Chevy Bell Air Coupe was shared on the Wooland On-Line, just passing this beauty on to this Woodland High School Forum.  This was my very favorite Chevy style!!  I wanted this car!

We have 419 classmates indicating past military service in our WHS60's ranks, 83 of whom have indicated service in Vietnam.  There is a saying in the military, that "all gave some; some gave all".   From our 10 classes of the 60’s decade, we lost 10 classmates.   Click here to see rubbings of their inscriptions on 'the wall'.

Gary -- Thank you for this post.  During our time in the DC area we visited the Wall often, each time feeling sadness and remorse for the loss of life and failure of America to acknowledge our veterans service.  We as a country have not yet made this whole, but postings like yours remind us of our responsibility.

Thank you Gary for Recognizing Vietnam Veterans Day   Thank you for your kind thoughts on Vietnam Veterans and their Families Teresa.  It is nice to be welcomed Home  We faced a kit if Drama, worrry, and concern for our Safety over there.  The Enemy was all around us and we never knew when he would face danger.  This War had not Front.

Thank you Jim for the pictures, of walking the grounds within the war zone.  You bring the war situation to reality for us to remember what was given by all the service people under fire.  The word Thanks, is such a small word to you all, in any war America has faced.  We have are own wars right now within our schools, taking our children. God bless those lives.

If there are any motorcycling vets out there that want an amazing ride, check out "Run for the Wall".  It is a cross country ride in May, from LA area to Washington, DC, with 300 of what could become your new best friends.  It is a perfectly choreographed ~10 day ride, hosted by Legion and VFW posts and small towns across America.  Towns turn out to cheer you on like you were a 4th of July parade-all the time saying "thank you for your service".  You arrive in DC in time to join 'Rolling Thunder' in a ride around the capital with ~500,000 other bikers.  I was a FNG when I did it in 2009 (my first cross country run) and it is still going strong.   All vets welcome.

Gary, BZ for  your wife.  I was solo but met up with my daughter in DC for Rolling Thunder.  Blew her away.  I am always amazed at the emotion the wall brings out.

Picture is my daughter Michelle, at the Pentagon parking lot where we staged for Rolling Thunder.

Gary Wegener, Craig and Gary Tibbals, thank you for the recognition to our Vets.  The pictures all show those days we lived through, vets so given of their lives.  It has made us all stop and reflect upon these wars.  Amazing Grace, to be sang for all.  Thank you.

T., I had French with Art M.  Such a nice guy and I felt terrible when I heard he had lost his life.  I saw his name on the travelling wall in Eugene, OR many years ago.  Even though it was small scale the impact of the memorial hit home.    Jo Ann

Thank you JoAnn and Craig.  All I have heard about Arthur Miramontes is that he was a gentleman and very kind.  It was just terrible about his life lost.  I remember Mother coming to the front door in tears when she told me he had lost is life overseas.  So young.  All those vets, just so sad.

In addition to my neighbor Art, I'd also like to mention David Boyle ('66), another KIA; he was in my Riverine outfit.

Sad news to share:    Ted "Marty" Carrion passed away April 1, 2023.  He received a letter on Christmas Eve Day confirming he had cancer.  It was found in a routine annual physical.  Up until that time, he was playing golf, cutting wood, cleaning off the driveway with the snowblower, and enjoying life.     A service will be held at the VA Cemetary at Dixon in a few weeks.   Kathy (Thornsberry) Ellinghouse-Carrion
