Gormans.  I stand corrected on the Gorman question.  John Davis, who is married to Carol Gorman, informs me that Carol's uncle owned the restaurant.  Didn't know that.

Thanx to all of you for your private messages and wishing me a speedy recovery from my 2 surgeries last week. It's tough getting old and having the body fall apart. Again, thanx to all.

Memorial Day is Monday, May 29th.  It is a day to remember and honor the fallen.

If you live in or around Woodland, you may remember seeing the road sign on CR 102 between Woodland and Davis, honoring Petty Officer Neil Roberts, a US Navy SEAL.,  The sign is a teaser for  'the rest of the story'.

The fog of combat is sobering.  All gave some...some gave all.  Actually, many gave all. God bless'em all.

Thank you Gary.  I wish more people would remember the real meaning of Memorial Day. So many people think it's just a time to BBQ and get drunk.

I THANK ALL WHO SERVED AND ALL THAT GAVE ALL !

As Gary said, God bless all.

Memorial Day is a day to thank all our service people, service dogs and horses.  Freedom is not free, lives are lost.  Bless those who have given for our Country.    Many Thanks.

There is a beautiful ceremony put on by Yolo Post 77 American Legion at the Woodland Cemetery on Monday at 11:00 PM.  We see many of the same people every year honoring their families and classmates lost to us defending our country.

Here is a Photo of the 128th Tomahawk Memorial Rock in front of the Operations Office in Phu Loi, Vietnam  Long before there was a Vietnam Memorial Walll.  We had the Names of fallen Aviators of the 128th AHC on this Rock of Remembering.  The Year is 1970.

For memorial day please remember my three great friends:

!st Lt. Bob Edmunds who was shot down in his F-105 Thunderchief on his thrd flight into North Vietnam in October 1968. Bob visited Woodland with me and met cousin Brann Thomas WHS '69 in March 1967.

Capt Paul Barwick who died in hs F-100 on a simulated nucear weapons bomb release off the Isle of Mann in the Irish sea in March 1970.

Capt Walt Buck in his F-100 who hit the top of a mountain in Northern Spain on a low level mission in June 1970.

All were excellent fighter pilots and will be remembered forever by their fellow pilots. They answered the call to defend our country with courage dedication and selflesness.

SCAM ALERT!!!!

I was talking to Andrea's sister, Diana Alsop (Fernandez). She mentioned that she received an email from Judy Wohlfrom. The email asked for Diana's help to purchase 3-$100 Google Play gift cards. The purpose of this purchase was to help a classmate in need.

Once Diana bought the cards, the email asked her to scratch the back of the gift card to reveal the validity code. Diana was to respond to the email with these codes.

In turn, "Judy" would send her the $300. I told Diana that this is definitely a scam!!! Do not buy the cards and send the codes.

Don't know if anyone else has received an email from "Judy". Just wanted to alert everyone.

That happened to me a year ago. They emptied my address book and sent a request for $500 so I could buy a wedding gift for my niece.  About 15 folks from my address book called to make sure the request was legitimate. A couple of people said they knew it was a scam  because they knew I was an only  child, thus no nieces. Never was able to refill my address book. Had about 50 names in it.

This is another memory question - I was was reminishing about High School days with someone and the topic of "Girls being refered to as The 600's" (I think that was the number) came up. Does anyone remember what that meant? Was is like a sorority or?. Was it something that we said about someone else, or did they refer to themselves that way? Was it just our class (1962) or did other classes have a similar group? Being that our class kinda fits in the middle of this group, I am curious what our class remembes and what the other classes may have to say. And, trying to remember back 60 years ago, I don't think it was used in anything but a fun way??

Greg,  I'm sure everyone has their own interpretation of the term "600".  In our day, it referred to girls who were snobby. They thought they were better than everyone else. Usually wore nicer clothes and jewelry though family wealth did not play a big part.  I noticed that at our 60th reunion, a couple of 600s had not changed since high school.

As I recall, in 1962-1966, we still used the expression "she's a 600." I think it faded out by the time we graduated in '66.

Don I agree with you as I remember also. Another meaning as I recall the number "600", meaning above everyone else. Being that "500" was average.  I still could give you a list of the "600" in the class of 1964.  You could spot the "600's" because they all ran around together. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't just the girls. There were the guys also. Go Mighty Wolves. Wolves forever.

CM: A jazz piano book. I love my Yamaha DGX-660 Digital Piano and play it every day. I don't like that picture, though. I think I'll change it.

600's were alive and well in the class of '67. Both sexes had that claim to fame. At least they only played with their own. I can name a few.

MY recollection, for what it's worth, leans more towards the family's wealth like Don said......only it stood for the father's monthly income.  In the OLD DAYS, these kids were called 400's.  By the time us youngsters came along, $600 per month was a really good income for the head of household.  As a reference, I remember a bank teller's income was around $200 per month in the early 60's.  In today's world, you need to drive to that bank and withdraw $100 just to fill your gas tank.  Today's aristocratic HS kids might just be called "THE 6000's".wink

Don:  It is true that during the 1960s there was a definite Social Ceiling at Woodland High School.  It was very difficult to get into a group coming from a small school like Cacheville, into a large 400 plus Class of 1964.  Most of the classmates already knew each other from years gone by.  A total shock to enter as a Freshman into a large unknown group at high school.  It was not until I was a Junior to finally find some close friends, basically around the group which Bill Wallace knew, dating.  Then Woodland High School became fun, as Alfred Catalan was among the group.  What a fun person Alfred was, a laugh a minute. Sweet!  Must say Alfred is not forgotten.  I remember when he put frogs in the Woodland Library Book Drop!  I still laugh about that.

Thanks everyone for providing answers - Keep the menories coming. It looks like evryone kind of has a slightly different, yet similar memory. When you think about it, this was a significant part of growing up in Woodland and going to WHS. Something that never appeared in the newspapers, the Ilex or any of the Histories of Woodland.
