This pro football year just passed was one of the greatest ever.  The Pats came back an scored 31 unanswered points to set a Super Bowl record,  Brady outstanding g performance after dedicating the game to his mom, and best of all the scumbag Seattle Seahawks didn't come anywhere near the Super Bowl.

Okay classmates Gene Boyd and Craig Mayfield. BASEBALL rules the world. I'm trying to wash that Superbowl game out of my mind. Only 47 days until the first Mariners spring training game! Well, hope springs eternal! Maybe this year will finally be the year of the Mariner. Where have you gone Griffey Jr. and Ichiro?  My interest in basketball goes as far as the NCAA #1 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs. May they make it at least to the final four this year. (Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.)  A bit of trivia: which NFL team was the only team to beat the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons during this regular season. Ha ha, you guessed it. The Seattle Seahawks. Now, Gene, you were one funny guy in high school. And I was going to quote some of your many humorous sayings, but upon closer reexamination I realize they were all too indecent for this family friendly web site. Did you become a stand-up comedian, or did you have to work for a living like the rest of us?

Joel Childers (1966)

Oops, I meant to type 17 days until Spring Training...as if anyone here cares. One more day of snow and then it's supposed to reach 47 degrees F. That's a tropical heat wave for Spokane Valley in February. I see it's still raining buckets in good old Woodland and the formerly parched Sacramento Valley. Thanks to the invisible robot overlords and their super-quantum-7 dimensional-hologram computer for making it so...or making us think that it is so. Uh oh, I've been reading too much of Craig's ramblings again.)

PS Joel. You have me confused with someone else.  I was the quiet ,shy guy that was always studying and trying to carry more books around campus than Tommy Nakumura. Sadly, was unable to accomplish that feat of strength and skill.

Craig, I remember that after three attempts to put my hand back the Novocain e wore off; that the second day , Pepsi in those  crappy paper cups at the school vending machine in the old Annex spilled inside my cast making it more itchy than what I expected to be normal. Few days later you were fine. Now, the city is going to tear down the "muni" and expand the park?  I guess there are different battlegrounds than when we fought. Joel: I think it's wonderful that  you've taken an interest in your Single -A team the Mariners  are you swimming down to Spring Training (wherever their camp is)? It's getting too wet to drive or fly.

Gene Boyd. - I looked you up in the yearbook. You are you. And don't tell me you're not funny. (Lost track of how many kids you have?) Funny how one can forget all of the great wisdom dished out by the wisest of our high school teachers, yet I can remember a couple of clever (useless but clever) quips from a classmate after over half a century later.

Gene - looks like the 49ers blew all their dough on a new stadium. Maybe they can put an NFL team on the field next year. Most memorable play by the 49ers in 2016 = Kapernick taking a knee.

Between Thursday and Friday, the water level had risen two inches, according to lakeberryessanews.com.

It was June 28, 2006 to be precise as to when the lake level was as high as it was Friday. Since Jan. 1 of this year, the level has risen 34.3 inches, with seven more inches coming one month later, per lakeberryessanews.com. The site said at the present level, Lake Berryessa holds 1,511,835 acre-feet of water, which is 94.5 percents of its 1,600,000 A-F capacity.

• The last time the lake was this high was June 19, 2006.

• The lake level at this time last year was 401.2 feet, 37.4 feet lower than today.

• At the present level, Lake Berryessa holds 1,524,920 acre-feet of water — 95.3 percent of its 1,600,000 A-F capacity.

The Bureau of Reclamation expects the reservoir at Lake Berryessa to reach 440 feet of elevation sometime in the next few days and will begin flowing into the Glory Hole spillway due to high levels of precipitation and runoff into the reservoir.

According to Lake Berryessa News, as of 9 a.m. Saturday, the lake has essentially stopped rising and is stable at 438.6 feet — up only 7 inches in the last day — 1.4 feet below the Glory Hole.  Published in Daily Demmocrat 02/12/2017

Love that Merle...the Okie from Muskogee from Bakersfield.  Different subject: I read a book wherein the heroine and her cohorts go to Washington D.C (oops I mean Oz) amidst great pomp and circumstance. As they cower before the all powerful and fearsome president (oops I mean the Wizard) a curtain in the corner of the room falls away revealing a little man who is actually powerless to change anything, just a pompous gas bag. They thought this fraud was going to change their lives, but found instead that they had only to look within themselves to find what they needed. Don't worry. Be happy. No translation needed, Craig.
