Why do we  have to be labeled? Why isn't it okay just have diffrent different opinions and beliefs without being ridiculed. I am a republican, however, I listen to all sides with an open mind. I learn from others. I do not fear a different belief than mine. Sorry Craig that you are leaving. There were times I actually broke the code and knew what you were saying.

High School talklaugh Growing up in Yolo County talk yes  Woodland talk heart   Politics and Religion talk no  Discovering the emoji button cheeky. Hey C.M.; remember when we ran across each other outside Memorial stadium at the Cal football game back around 1974? I had hair down to here playing at being a "hippie" and you still looked like the guy I went to Sunday school with. You still got the farm out by Clarksburg? Turns out your straight and narrow path was the "high" road afterall. While getting high was the low road. It's weird seeing freeway billboard signs right here in Spokane Valley peddling legal marijuana. Is it that way yet in California?

Craig Mayfield's comments are what's great about the 1st Amendment, he gets to speak his mind just like everyone else.

If you don't like what he has to say don't read any more from him, it's that simple. No need to be insulting.

As for me I say carry on Craig. I'm on your side.

MICHAEL FINNY -

Michael Finney is a professional magician. He was born in 1954 in Woodland, California.[1] He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1978. He has appeared on numerous television specials and performs regularly throughout the U.S. He has appeared on the cover of The Linking Ring.[1]

Biography[edit]

After spending part of his early career as a close-up magician and a children's performer at a theme park, Finney decided to concentrate strictly on comedy magic.

Once a comedy finalist on the television program Star Search, Finney was nominated for 'Magician of the Year' by the Magic Castle nightclub in Los Angeles, performed at the 2004 Inaugural Gala for President George W Bush, and received the Silver Lion Head award for excellence in comedy and magic from magicians Siegfried and Roy.[2]

NBC[edit]

Once a regular performer on NBC's World's Greatest Magicians and World's Wildest Magic shows, Finney now performs primarily one day corporate events, charity events, and at casinos.

Finney is one of only a few magicians with their own foundation —- the Michael Finney Foundation to benefit firefighters and the Pappas School for homeless children. In eight years, his foundation donated over $400,000 to his causes, according to Finney's estimate. He stated in a recent interview that he is now also associated with the Gift of Life, a Rotarian group that provides assistance and operations for children with heart problems.[2] He is currently involved with the Wounded Warriors program, having contributed almost a million dollars through his foundation.[3]

With all the rains and the Oroville Dam issues, it was nice to see that the Woodland Fairgrounds opened the Home Arts Buildings for the evacuees, with Nugget Market and others coming to help.  Do hope everything holds, as  more rain coming this Monday.

CRAIG - regarding Jim Snipes . . .

James David Snipes  -            October 25, 1946 - October 03, 1996.

Jim married Shari Wilson. Jim served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.  In 1994, Jim went back to Vietnam as a civilian.  Two years later, Jim died due to "Agent Orange". His family were told Jim had cancer. Six weeks later, he died at home,  only 49 years old.  Jim had a large stature, laughed loudly and had red hair, recognizable from afar.

Re:   Jim Snipes..........I think information about being in Viet Nam maybe wrong........We left Viet Nam with the fall of Siagon in 75 I believe, so Jim would not have been there in 96?  (Unless he was a military contractor with US Gov't/DOD......I could be wrong).....Bottom line still a loss of a true fellow Vet and I for one thank him for his service to us all...............Herbicides still kill service members from that timeframe to this day.......

Finally got into the Forum.  Yes, the damage to the Dam looks like there were some orginal construction issues.  Great picture.  Hope the dam is not in danger.  So many of our dams need repair, as I hear.

Sally Skellchock (Miller) (1964)

I've lived in Oroville for 46+ years now. This whole thing with the spillway is something we'll never forget.  As for the dam...I don't believe we need to worry about the dam.  It's earth filled...basically a big mountain.  I remember when I first moved up here in 1970 and saw that huge thing for the first time. It frightened me until Iearned more about it.  As for the spillway...well...we have to remember that this was all built when we were in high school...way back in the 60's. That's a long time ago and technology has changed a lot in that time. It's going to be an interesting year to see what they figure out as far as repairing or replacing the spillway.  Actually both spillways as I expect they'll do more work on the emergency spillway too.  Whatever they do, they're going to have to hustle.  There will be a window between the end of this rainy season and the beginning of the next rainy season and they have to be ready for that.

I have property above the Oroville Dam and for many years several experts said if the lake topped the emergency spillway that it would fail. other than a concrete cap on the top of the emergency spillway there is no engineered path to chanel the water into the river below or control how much volume is released. With such a volume of water it would have to follow the ravines wich in no way are a straight shot to the river.Locals believe the water resources that manage the lake have mismanaged it for years.remember this lake was built to store water for Los Angeles and to do work on the Dam you might have to lower the lake level wich is not acceptable to some people in control.
