Very nice article on Rick Gonzales, Senior, as a Community Leader and the Spring Lake Park named after him.  Thank you Robert and Gale for those good memories, and now a Park with his name.  A lot of changes in Woodland, but some good changes.

Thank you Connie Waldeck Beard for sharing your visit with Mr. Weisick - he was my Geography teacher and I really enjoyed his class.  Mr. Henry (Shorthand I and II) - his class was so much fun.  I also enjoyed Ilex Class with Mrs. Podgasky.  Mrs. Queen Carroll was always in the halls when we were changing class making sure our skirts were not too short.

Craig Mayfield - I believe you are referencing Gary Wegener's travels on his motorcycle a year or so ago where he visited Russia and many other countries.   Gary did provide a report on his trip.  However, I cannot remember where this report is electronically filed.

Craig - I find many of your comments to be silly talk .... I do like to check in with this forum and catch up with WHS Alumni.  I would like to check more often and just cannot bring myself to do so since I have to scroll through your posts that I find annoying.

Good morning.

I have been reading this forum for some time now. I would like to talk to some of my friends way back when.

Something I would love to share is our 57 Weddings Anniversary is April 3rd. We have a beautiful family of 4 children, 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Life has been good to me.

Connie so glad you spoke directly to Mr. Weisick to extend all our appreciation for his teaching.  We did have a great collection of great teachers at Woodland High School.  Some learning skills we carried up into adulthood.  So many teachers I cannot name them all.  Mrs. Podgasky, a Queen of typing and Counselors, along with Mr. Harold Brown, who always had a laugh or could find one in you.  Mr. Brown is as great as always, never changes. Those typing skills opened the door for me to get a job at the State.  Today that pension and insurance has so helped me in retirement.  I had no idea at the time that I would need all those benefits.  I must thank them all.

Rest in peace, Pat Conner, sister to JoAnn Conner, the class of 1964. I remember them both very well.

Norma Berrettoni - Don't pay any attention to Craig. He injured his cerebral cortex in a fall from a hubcap on the set of the movie "Plan 9 From Outer Space." He was Bela Legosi's stunt double. In other news, the Gonzaga student body was out last night burning sofas in celebration of the Zags final four victory. Ah, Spring is busting out all over today here in the Spokane Valley. The sun is shining, the crocuses and those little blue flowers (I call them bluebidils, my wife calls them weeds) are popping up, and the birds are chirping in our stove vent. Seriously. Dang Starlings. Actually I got the nest out (no eggs or babies) with a coat hanger and ordered a bird-proof vent cover from Home Depot. Meanwhile it is the starling versus duct tape every morning around 7 am. So far the duct tape is holding but the side of the house needs daily cleaning. I hope the starling gives up soon. Fortunately, starlings are legal to massacre in any number...real pests, the mosquitoes of the avian world. Mariners opener is tomorrow evening. Break out the bar-b-que and Budweiser.

Vern Larson (1960)

I'm sorry to report that Bonnie Pixton, WHS 1960, passed away several days ago, as messaged me by her sister-in-law, Terry Pixton. She had been in a convalescent home for some time with failing health.  She was very shy and quite in high school with few friends. I saw her at a high school reunion about 20 years ago and with feelings of guilt for having not been more friendly towards her in school, tried to make up for it by spending time with her to find out what she had been doing since graduation. That was a life lesson for me to strive and be a friend to all, and to speak only kind words. I wish I had learned that lesson years before...It is still a work in progress for me.

I went online and looked in the Woodland obituarys but it is not listed as yet, but I'm sure that Robert Cowing, WHS 1965, will post the obituary when it is available. Thank you Robert, we all appreciate what you do for us.

R.I.P Bonnie

Happy 57th wedding anniversary Louise! Your husband was a smart man to have grabbed you up right out of high school. No sense in taking a chance and letting you get away.

Time to come clean about my 'solo' motorcycle trip across Russia in 2015...  unforgetable.  Click for a pdf download.  I am no fan of Putin's or their political system, but the Russian people I met were wonderful. Couldn't get Joanie to come with me, but she would have loved it and they would have loved her.

Sad news regarding the Yolo General Hospital.  When I was a toddler, I had spinal meningitis, and was quarantined for 2 weeks at Yolo General.  All I was allowed to see were Dr.'s and nursers, even my parents were not allowed in.  I remember climbing out of my bed, and "making a run for it", causing quite a stir.  I didn't get too far....wink

Gary, I enjoyed your trip a lot. My wife has a lot of Facebook friends over there because of our dog clubs. They are very nice people  (of course they are, they are dog people). We really like thier pictures. Gives us a chance to see thier homes and country side. Too bad you're wife didn't go, chance of a lifetime.

Louise, nice to hear from you. You have my wife and me beat. We've only been married 51 years. But our first date was in 1961, do we get credit for that ? Only one kid though. It was a girl, and I said thats all I can afford. And she had one girl and quit. She said she was going to quit while she was ahead. Don't know what she meant by that ? ? ?

Craig,  Vern would be a good mentor for you. Not that you need one.

Gary, your solo motorcycle trip across Russia amazed me when you first posted your experiences last year. Today with more information and photos it truly is spectacular! I totally enjoyed going through your photos and descriptions of your travels. I can see it was well planned, utilizing modern technology, insuring if some unexpected problems occurred you would have a plan to fall back on…which still left plenty of room for the unexpected. With your knowledge of technology, and desire for adventure, we are all looking forward to future travels with you. Thank you Gary...also, thank you Joanie for letting him go.

And Dan, Craig, and Elvis...thank you for your kind words...they brought a smile to my face.

Vern Larson, like your comments on keeping friends through the years.  It is so important.  Glad to have a few Woodland High School friends I can always contant and share old times.  We can still recall events and times shared.  Also, it is sad to see the old General Hospital vanish.  Always drove by there on the way downtown when the family living at the family home.

I have been gone again. Took awhile to read all of the posts that I have missed and to catch up.

First of all, congratulations Louise! I remember well when you got married. We were sitting in Journalism class when you announced it. Also remember when we used to go to Sunday School together at the old Methodist Church in Yolo.

About Mr. Hal Brown... Talked to Dian Dooley ('60) and she told how one day Mr. Brown was playing a comedy record by Tom Lehr (might have been "Poisoning Piegons in the Park" or something equally irreligious) when Dr. Stafflebach (Assistant Superintendent of Schools) walked in unannounced! The needle was quickly removed from the record! Many year later Mr. Brown said that as a new teacher, this was not the was to impressed one of his bosses. At the time it was hard to realize how close in age he was to us.

Janeen (Aubrey) Vick:

HELLO classmates from 1965.  It was interesting to see on Facebook all the classes stating their "class" songs.  Did we even have one and if so what was it?  Probably "I can't get no satisfaction"..OR?   I know our class mascot was the RATFINK.but not sure if he had a song to sing.

If you know us, Vern and Janeen (Aubrey) Vick and would like to sit and visit, we will be visiting Woodland during the first week of May. There will be an informal gathering on Saturday, May 6th at Jack Slaven Park from 2:00 to 5:00 pm if you care to come and hang out with us. Vern's health has been failing and he would like to see some of his old friends while he visits with his mom and brother who still live there.  We, currently live in Brookings Oregon on 5 acres, in our home which we built, with an ocean view and no neighbors!

No wonder we left Woodland!    Kidding!... haha..... Hope to hear from some of you.

Been awhile since I'm on the site...Hope all are doing well, little note to the class of 66, your class mate James C Calibro, broke his neck and has been fighting it with all his strenght......It's been coming on three weeks, and he has another two to three weeks in the Re-Hab Hospital, then more than likely 3 to 4 more months in the "Halo" head brace.......His sprits are hi and his wife Holly is holding down the fort, but it's tuff.......If you have time and want to pray for his fast recovery it would be nice.......Glad to see the "Trump" craze has slowed down, like it better when we talk of the old'en dazes.......Wish all the fellow male and female wolves the best for the Easter and Spring........

  Happy Easter

I am thankful for Jesus Christ, for His miraculous birth, His perfect example, and for His atoning sacrifice, so that as we repent and strive to obey all God's commandments, we may return to Heavenly Fathers presents, when we have finished our work here on earth. In the name of Jesus Christ.
