I attended the FFA Livestock Auction yesterday and I just want to comment that all of the FFA participants in yesterday's event were wonderful.  These young people are the future of our country and this program teaches them skills they will use throughout their lives.  Hats off to our Yolo County Ag Teachers ... and all teachers!

Vern, I think you might be wrong about "that person" offending "and did not have that intent."  It is always written with derogatory and negative statements and is either  Day Dreams or too much Vodka.

Most of the short statements do not make sense.

We do not have a positive interaction and the rules need to be read again.

"Excessive/nonsensical posts are daily.  People are getting rediculed daily which is not fair.

If the “3rd rock from the sun” had more people like Mr. Vern Larson on it, this old world would be a lot better place in which to live.  Patience, integrity, morals, ethics, honesty, truthfulness…........you’ve got it all, Vern.  I’m so glad that we had a chance to meet at our “WHS 60’s Reunion.”

God Bless You!!

Wally, thank you very much for those very kind, humbling words. I certainly don't deserve them, but I absolutely appreciate them. One of the high lites for me at the WHS 60's Reunion was when Judy came up to me and said "hi".  I hadn't seen Judy in over 50 years. Judy had the same smile and was just as cute then as she was as a young girl when we dangled our feet in the irrigation ditch. May God bless you and Judy also! Thank you again Wally!

Lackey and Mr. Collins..we went down the stairs in a group...they said all of you get to your classes...now that was an invent to remember....It went that way for four years.....If I had to make a choice of where I would return...it would be there....1960 to 1964......and Wally I remember Steve's Band and I remember the Armory Dance ..I was in with Tom Jiminez......Lead Guitar...I..Bass... malcolm Nicholson..on Drums.....Memories come back to the Golden times..don't they!!!....We sometimes forget what out teacher have taught us and Why,.......of course ...Our Parents!!!!!!

I would much rather read about parades and other fun Yolo County history than read Craigs' cheap insults.  How about stuff that has happend to us in life.  Things we learned, overcame, won, enjoyed, kids, grand kids.  How is retirement working for you? :)    note:  Get that PSA test boys.  Some varities of that cancer are very aggressive, I have lost two friends.  My PSA is now less than  0.1... radiation and isotope implants, no side effects and four years cancer free.

This is from the Woodland Pet Parade, October 1958.  The theme was Beauty and the Beast.  Greg Leiser won for best dressed animal, and I won for best 'Beauty".  We both got bicycles from Foys (?) Bike shop.

Pet Parade continued.  Dan I can't find the picture of Chris Crawford riding her horse in the parade  Have no idea where it went.  She was dressed as an Indian with a sorta war bonnet.  I must have been the cowboy.  So I found the announcement for the parade!  Hope it comes out.  Chris and I were in the Best Groomed Pet and Best Dressed Pet (anything to get to ride in the parade).  I remember my grandmother Greata watching the parade.  So I'll try to post picture and my entry #.

I

I first had a Woodland Democrat paper route then switched to the Sacramento Bee.  What a terrible job, seven days a week, papers so big I couldn't carry them all, and then wrapping them in wax paper when it rained.  Often the paper would fly out of the cover and leave me with the cover in my hand and a wet paper on the ground.  Then it would be collecting time and I had to go door to door to collect the money.  All losses came out of my earnings, and some people would put me off time after time.  Tough job for a kid.

Note:  Craig, is it possible for you to lighten up and stop taking shots at people.  I think you are an attorney, is that correct?  You seem to have skin thicker than an alligator and an insensitivity which is twice that!  No matter what someone says you come back with both barrels ablazin'!!  I stay away from this forum most of the time, and mostly because you have hijacked it for private political and social editorializing.  It is as if you lack self control and just cannot write a paragraph without including politics, religion, or some insult.  Just an observation.

Hi Jeanni!  Great pic of you on the bike. :)

I found this message board a few days ago.  I thought it might be fun to read about people's experiences when they were growing up in Woodland.  Sadly, after reading quite a few of the posted messages, I found a message board filled with judgment and sarcasm.

What I have learned over the years is that people who verbally lash out need an audience to thrive.  If you "ignore"  their comments and do not respond, they will eventually leave and find a more appropriate forum.  Just a thought.

Tom, and don't forget the rubber bands....OUCH! And how your hands would turn grey from the ink on the paper. My first route with the Democrat was across town, not a fun trip in the dark of the am. Then I got one right around my neighborhood...sweet. Got pretty good with my aim. I always prided myself with being able to hit the porch almost every time. It was a good learning experience though. I never missed a day, nor remember sleeping in past delivery time.

I remember turning the money in at the Democrat to what I recall as a grumpy old man. Might be a good job for you Craig (ha).

Great info for the Daliy Democrat carriers....I started out with the other paper in Woodland that delivered in the mornings, (the Record I thinking, anyone know for sure it's name) that was a pain, but was lucky enough to get the route with the DD around my home on College...I did it for years, until and including my first year or two in Hi School, I worked with Ward Ellis, he wanted me stay and work there in the print room/press room where/when the papers came off the presses.....He got mad at me when I left, I wanted a easier job so I went to work at the Beacon Station, then the Norwalk on East St.....I worked in that field until I joined the Army...Worked for a fellow named JR Hivley......On the paper route stuff, I too got cheated out of collection monies most of the months I carried, but alway made sure to take care of paper boy down here in Mo-Town when he came around....Sometimes I wonder if I had stayed at the DD, if Ward would have helped me get a full time job there....Was informative working there just how the lead was melted and then the formed to a big cylinder for transfer of the ink to the paper when it was running....The whole place shook when it was at full speed and loud like no nobody business........Fun fact, I delived papers to Loran Polete parents, Chief Martin "WPD" and Ralph Troxel homes as a kid.....Good Old Daze?
