Very wise words Tom and thank you for posting that.  It really made an impression on me.  Also, beautiful pictures of Prague.  I'm definitely ready to go back to Europe, just for the Christmas fairs!

Maybe if a majority of readers here wishes for a squeak-free Christmas, we'll have a Happy New Year!

Many prayers to all the firefighters, people, and animals within the Ventura area with these fires.  Here again, fires within California.   Rain would be a total blessing.  Now these are big concerns!

Gail Smith....I have not had the privilege of attending some of the truly great Christmas Markets in Europe.  They are mainly in Germany and Austria, although Prague is usually toward the top.  I would love to take the river cruise along the Rhine River.  That would be totally awesome.

I remember a couple of neighborhoods in Sacramento that went ALL out for Christmas and the displays were amazing.  The homeowners would serve hot chocolate, coffee and treats to visitors.

In the European Markets the food booths are fantastic, and the hand crafted ornaments and Christmas gifts are amazing.  Add to that the chocolate shops and bakeries and you have a wonderful experience.

One year I was on a float in the Woodland Christmas parade.  It was a few years after High School.....this was during my "angelic" period of life....LOL

Just as I was writing my Christmas list, the news comes out that there is no such thing as a squeak free Christmas. Guess I'll do something else today.

Christmas river cruises are fantastic and I highly recommend them.  Of course, you just have to look at the food, both in the cities and on the ship and you gain 10 pounds!  I can't remember what these are called (Christmas Balls maybe?) but they were all over Germany.  They look so good but surprisingly, were rather dry.

These goodies were in a bakery that was the only thing open the day after Christmas.

And this was a typcial dessert table on the ship each night!

The only thing that saves a person from gaining too much weight is that you do a lot of walking in the various cities you dock at!  Oh, and this is what you saw every time you walked into the lobby.

Gail Smith Maxwell......great photos....makes me hungry for all those things I can't have.  I remember when we were in Italy someone from our troop was always eating Gelato.  It was addicting.  Looking through windows can also add the pounds.....LOL

Thanks

Tom and Gail, those Christmas pictures of food and lovely outside decorations create the real spirit of Christmas.  Thank you for all to see.  Still recall Woodland's  Main Street Christmas decorations of the big red bells which crossed the Main Street all the way down each Christmas in Woodland.  Epperson's big white Christmas tree on the main floor, with the latest model of Cadillac.

Gail Smith (Maxwell) (1964)

Tom Stewart - YUM!  What else can I say.  Chocolate is my downfall and those items in the windows looked scrumptious!

Teresa - I remember those red bells!  Main St. always looked so festive.  Small town Christmas at its best.

My husband and I are celebrating our 48th aniversary tomorrow and we are celebrating by going down to Carlsbad to our timeshare.  Unfortunately, our timing isn't great, with the fires and winds but we made the plans a while ago so nothing we can do about it now.  Looking forward to seeing Carlsbad (a fairly small city) decorated for Christmas.

Dan Ree (Ree) (1964)

Yes...Theresa..I do remember those Red Bells stretched across Main Street   and Epperson Giant Christmas Tree and those great looking Cadillacs........My parent used to drive by there often....Do you also recall every Christmas season.....my parnts went to a street..I think was on Viento Lane.....and there was a Santa standing out in the street handing out candy canes....asking us what we wanted for Christmas........and the Free Show at the State...all one had to do is get the Movie Pass from Nugget market on Christmas Eve.... they would show 2 movies ..cartoons and give each kid a goody bag........Yes...Woodland had it's Beauty...many Woodlanites of today will never vision the true days during Woodland's Christmas Season........and at a price that did not break the Bank!!!!!!!

Mahala O'Brien (Wegener) (1964)

Dan and Mahala, those Christmas Seasons shared were very grand.  You could get all your shopping done on Main Street and meet a lot of friends.  Do not recall the Santa with the candycanes, Dan.  But it sounds so fun.  Do remember all the shows at the State Theater.  Our family always went to Midnight Mass and that was when we would drive pass Epperson's and see the lovely tree.  Woodland had some wonderful sights around Christmas with families decorating their yards and merchants making their windows look like magic.  Or, was it the magic in our spirit!

Help and stop it, these last few posts are sinful......As a Diabetic, my numbers raise just looking at all the candy and goodies.....Keep'em coming always enjoy looking at the best things of the world that come in the sweets department.....Yes I remember the State Theater Christmas shows....One could go in and spend the entire day watching cartoons.  I think Mrs Marston really liked doing that for the kids, but she was tuff no acting up or causing problems, she'd pop you out of the place in a heart beat.....Living two blocks away from Epperson's Auto Dealership, I loved looking at the Caddies, and also remember the Christlmas Dinner they would give their employees there in the show room.......I think as a kid Christmas was alway better than as an adult.....

When I think back on Woodland at Christmas, it reminds me of this picture.  And we did have a Woolworths at that time also, right on Main Street, in the Stop n' Shop Center.
