Oh, Bev, I cannot tell you how Woolworth's was so wonderful as a young girl with no money.  Mother always gave me some Christmas money, $10, to buy gifts.  Wooolworth's had everything.  I still have a few treasures from that store.  I loved it!!!  You could get a sundae for $.25.  Just thinking about that now.   For my Christmas at present, I just got my Gingerbread Dough made up for the cookies I do every year; I started this in 1964 with my Aunt June.  What fun.  Now I just try to make them the very best for the family.

My dear Classmates, especially  those who are the youngest. There is a very good possibility you have sat on Santa’s lap in the Penny’s shopping center during the years 1958 - 1960. If so, I have kept my list of those of you who are naughty & nice. Yes, that is me sitting on the throne with Midge Hatcher on my lap. She was a Yolo County queen contestant, and I have to admit, I did steal a little kiss, probably while this photo was being taken. After school I would go to the shopping center and walk around with a sack of candy over my shoulder passing it out to kids. In the evening I would sit on the throne in Penny’s and kids, you know who you are, would come sit on my lap and tell me what you wanted for Christmas. I loved doing it! I surprised a lot of people by calling them out by name as I saw them walking around the mall.

Have a very Merry Christmas Classmates!

Mr. Santa:  What a great memory in the Shopping Center 1960s!!!  Love the picture of you.  Those were the days.  JCPenney's was the place, but Breit's held up pretty high.  I am sure you gave all the children whatever they asked for!!!

So enjoyed reading about Woodland Christmas’ past!  I so remember Santa handing out candy canes at the shopping center!  The parking lot was packed with shoppers!  Always shopped at Breits and sometimes The Fashion for a special occasion.  Our little town was just bustling with Christmas spirit!  Wonderful to warm our hearts of days past.  Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas making new memories that will warm the hearts of our children and grandchildren in the future.  ðŸŽ„

Hi, Brenda Valencia Arteche - it's great to see your pic. Mr. Richards provided us with a lot of unintentional laughs. He thought putting us in the front row would change our behavior. smiley

Just a quick note to all who post on this site - it would be appreciated if you post about someone to make sure the information is correct.  I realize that this is not a frequent problem ( have only been informed a couple of times) but wrong information could be hurtful to family memebers.  Thank you all for your consideration in this matter.

OMG Bev Hukil - I almost forgot about the adventures of Mr. Richards’ class - I’m certain we were two of his favorite students!

Bev, love your Christmas Wreath picture on your profile with all its sparkle.  Now my cookies are done for another year of tradition, just have to mail them out, as soon as the frosting is set.  It is time for those wonderful movies, "It's a wonderful Life" (James Stewart) as James Stewart is my very favorite actor; however, my new favorite to my heart is, "Polar Express".  What is your favorite Christmas move, or song?

Does anyone have any idea how the Yolo Tamale Parlor made their enchaladas? I remember that they were wrapped in corn husks and there was no seam on the outter covering. It wasn't a tortilla but more like a combination of corn and flour masa. I have the recipe for the tamale sauce (which I could eat a whole batch!) but I am still stumped on how to make the enchaladas. HELP!

"The Christmas Song" by Mel Torme' ---- "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...."   sung by Nat King Cole and many many others. Although we never had chestnuts growing up in Woodland. Come to think of it, I don't believe I've ever eaten a chestnut. Anybody roast chestnuts as a kid? "It's a Wonderful Life"...best Christmas movie and probably among the top ten all time movies.

As to the Christmas movies -- I love the National Lampoon's Christmas with Chevy Chase and Beverly DeAngelo.  It just isn't Christmas unless I watch the Griswolds and their antics.  I also enjoy the Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel.  My favorite is The Christmas Card which was filmed not too far from Woodland in Nevada City, California.  I have been to Reno and Lake Tahoe many times, but never to Nevada City.  Would love to go there the next time I'm in California.  Pretty hard getting there as I live in Savannah, GA, but maybe someday.

Vern, I’ve very much enjoyed the choir pieces. Thank you. I never met the squeak, but clearly it was dropped as an infant. There is no other explanation for the meaningless dribble and hurtful insults. I have to remind myself that God loves even the jackasses. And Linda, we know who you are and the squeak can’t touch your beautiful soul. Merry Christmas, squeak included, if he even cares.

The messages posted in the forum are always interesting to me...especially at this season.  If you don't like the messages posted just ignore them and go on.  Some of us are on different political path than it seems the majority on this forum are.  That doesn't mean that the folks on either path are bad or good it just means there are difffences of opinion.  Some of us have also traveled a very different path since graduating from WHS and therefore have a different perspective on the world (including the current political machinations in the U.S.).  Again that only means that in a country with free press (at least for now) we all have the right to express our thoughts and beliefs even (or especially) those that differ from our own.

I wish everybody a the best of the season however you celebrate or don't celebrate it.

Freedom of speech is one of the greatest privileges (or, rights) afforded us. But at least for me, it does not include bullying, degrading words or personal attacks on a person’s character. That falls under hate speech.  I know I will feel more comfortable viewing this site over the next few months, and hopefully we’ll see more civility after that time. Wishing all a beautiful Christmas.
