Elizabeth Betty Ann Nelson    Sept. 23, 1924 - May 26, 2018

She was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Clifford, ND, to Leonard and Alma Swanson.

She married her high school sweetheart, Mervin D. Nelson, when he returned home from serving in World War II. They moved to San Francisco, where Merv attended Dental School, and Betty Ann was busy raising the first three of their five children.

They moved to Woodland in 1956 and had two more children. Betty Ann was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved her garden and was always busy pursing new interests, needlepoint, painting and making teddy bears, to name a few She also loved to tell stories of her adventurous childhood in North Dakota.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Mervin D. Nelson; children, Diane Nelson (WHS 1965), Christy Allen (Dick) (WHS 1966), Steve Nelson (Carolanne) (WHS 1969), and Beth Nelson; grandchildren, Lori Nemeth and Justin Allen (Kim); great grandchildren, Charlie and Aaron Nemeth, and Piper and Mia Allen. She is also survived by her brother, Joel Swanson. She was preceded in death by her son, Jon Nelson; parents, and two sisters. Betty's wish was to have no service.

Walter J. "Wally" Summ (1967)

smileyThat's a drummer, Janet.....a DRUMMER!!!!  (Sorry---I didn't see the emoji  buttons)smiley

For those of you who don't know, I'm a lead guitar player...and I thought it was funny.

That cup of coffee is still waiting for you, Janet!!!

On a related note...as Carl reports below, we lost a very wonderful classmate on Sunday.  I can truly say that Frankie was loved by everyone....always kind, always compassionate, always your friend.  He will be greatly missed.  "On a related note" because Frankie was not only a good guitar player, he was also a drummer.  A mutual friend told me yesterday that Frankie would pedal by their house as a kid beating his drumsticks on his handlebars.  A musician through and through.  Rest in peace, my dear friend.

It is also with a sad heart that I tell my W.H.S. classmates that Jim Leathers (60) passed away yesterday afternoon. R.I.P. Jimmy.

Don Murdoch (1962)

Joan,  Sorry to hear about Jim Leathers.  Played golf with him for a few years in high school.  Never forget his 1960 powder blue Ford Galaxie. Of course, Tim inherited it after Jim graduated.  I used to ride in the back seat opening beers for Jim and Rick Rhoades. When Tim had it, I opened beers for Tim and Gary Santoni. The four of us plus the late Mike Leake were the golf team in 1960. Been opening beers ever since.  LOL.  Last saw Jim at the Arden Mall a few years ago.  I approached him but he had no idea who I was.  His son said he had early stages of Alzeimers.   RIP Jimmy.  Thanx for the update.

My sincere condolences to Jim's family and friends. I had Jim in several of my classes and we stood close to each other in gym class during roll call because of our last names being alphabetically close. He was always friendly and every body liked him. RIP my old gym buddy.

Dee (Marilee) Damsen (Kindelt) (1965)

I know it is a little early for this reminder; however, many have asked about the reservation deadline for the reunion in Sept.  The website indicates Sept 7 but I would think that Sept 1 would give the committee a little more time to work out details.  If you have any questions, please contact me (class of 65 rep) or your class rep.  Hope a lot of you are making plans to attend!!!
