Norma Berrettoni (Plocher) (1966)

The 'Muni' was one block from our house so spent alot of time there.  I took swimmng lessons, swam on the swim team and participated in the Aquacade in the summers.  Great times!  It is sad to not see the 'Muni' anymore - but seeing the dedication plaque to Grace Hiddleson means alot to me.  She was a great woman.

The Woodland Pool, Muni; great, clean fun for us all.  It was the main summer attraction for us all, swimming lessons, or  just a place to enjoy and meet our friends.  Very sad to see this vanish from sight.

Virginia Roath (Atkeison) (1966)

Thanks, Robert, for the pics of where the Muni Pool used to be.

YES, many great memories for all of us that went to the "Muni".  I learned to swim there, had my first job (starting summer "66), several years as pool manager and the memories are all wonderful.....the teachers in the 50's & 60's... David & Frank Fitz, Patti Gay, Bob Gordon,( Sheldon Strong &Gary Forbes, also pool managers), Terri Jones, Bill Utley, Joan Leathers, Pat Tauzer, Liz & Tootie Geer, Bill & Malcolm Pearson and of course, Grace Hiddleson.  The olympic style diving of Frank Fitz, Bill Freeman and Jeff Lodi and they also added great clown antics along with Buz Evicci and Rick Larson during the Aquacade shows.

Virgina - a great redition of the past of Woodland Muni !

Thanks for jarring many memories that some how did not surface until you made your recollection. It was nice to sit back and remember as I went through the names.

I wish I could have been at the site when they started the demolition but i don't remember any announcement about the deconstruction.

Freinds, family and sites seem to follow the same path at times. Their passing comes unexpected.

Thanks - Robert

Gary Wegener (Wegener) (1966)

When I was with the city Public Works Dept, Gracie came to a council meeting and at public comment period, asked the city to put in an ADA parking space by the pool side entrance.  She was sight impaired.  The council agreed and directed us to do it. The next morning Gracie called me and asked where the parking place was?  When I started to tell her it would be about a week, she interruted and said she went swimming at like 6am every morning, and having a space by the back gate would really help.  I believe we got the space marked the next day.  How could anyone say anything but yes to a blind person in her 90's swiming daily, especially when she taught you to swim.  (I presumed someone drove her...but didn't have the nerve to question her.)

Yes, great memories of the pool.  Believe it was 10 cents when we were kids, with clothes in the wire baskets, and you got a safety pin with your basket number on it..  I vividly remember the first time jumping, and later first time 'diving' from the high dive.  And swiming the length under water.  Didn't they have 10 minutes time outs each hours?  Good times, especially on 100 degree days like Monday is supposed to be.

Janet Long (Levers) (1966)

As an adult, many years after learning to swim at the municipal pool, (Bob Gordon is only instructor I remember), I signed up for the water exercise classes which were great, but the best thing about them was the chlorine infused, permanent odor of the shower/dressing room, which took me back to much earlier times. They oughta bottle such scents....

To supplement my retirement, I found a real money maker in selling homing pigeons......so far this month I've sold mine 4 times................and to the same guy !

07/29/18 01:42 PM #4695

Janet Long (Levers) (1966)

Tim, is a homing pigeon the same as a racing pigeon? Often I see the trailers that have what I call racing pigeons up near Mt. Shasta and other far-flung locations where they're taking a whole bunch of them to release to fly to their coop and have the clock time recorded. It seems like a really cool and sort of specialized undertaking-very interesting.

07/29/18 02:21 PM #4696

Tim Tucker (1965)

Janet, a racing pigeon is just a faster homing pigeon. They both are capable of finding their way home from fairly long distances........By the way, I had to google for that info. I really don't know zip about pigeons and I don't even sell them, but my post was somewhat humorous...IMHO.

The Pigeon did it..the question I need a answer...Why did that darn Chicken Cross the road?....Was it....the pigeon made him or.......was it the road was there to cross........Boy I can go for Some C. Sander's Chicken ..right Now!!!!

07/30/18 04:26 PM #4702

JoAnn Kergel (Wirth) (1965)

Why did the chicken cross the road?  An age old question and the answer is simple.  He or she crossed the road to show the possum it could be done.
