My nursing education is coming out but definitely the caterers and Yolo County health department needs to be notified as so so many were sick!!!

I counted 71 people that responded on this site of being ill but then I'm sure that not everyone is on the website...?

As many of you have indicated they had a good time at the reunion inspite of the "D" situation, we are grateful for all of your responses and glad you attended and had a good time.  In response to all who have suggested to contact the caterer, this was done immediately and the health dept was also contacted.  Again, we regret this unfortunate situation - things just happen.  I personally stand behind the caterer and hope this does not tarnish her excellent reputation!  Again, thank you all for your comments and your loyal attendance for the reunion.

To jump in on the "Gastro" issues....no problem!  We ate late and consumed all our food without issue!  Thank you Reunion Planning Committee for a great event!!

Thank you Vern for the sweet story about my mom. Everyone loved her. She was always so positive.

It was good to see you too at the reunion.

Update on the gastro-intestional issue that marred an otherwise (by all accounts) wonderful reunion event Sept 15th.

Debbie Wetzel and I realized this was an issue on Thurs the 20th (Message Forum reports started Wed afternoon) and formally reported it to the health dept Thurs evening.  Lewis Kimble is the Supervising Environmental Health Specialist that we are dealing with there. We have talked by phone and emails last Friday and today.  They initiated an investigation and been in contact  with the Caterer (Anderson's Catering out of Winters/Dixon) and the fairgrounds.  Since Anderson's works out of a kitchen in Dixon, Solano County Environmental Health is investigating there.  We gave Lewis a list of attendees and said we could contact them if warranted.  We are keeping him appraised of the number and type of compliants received (107 and principally stomach cramps and diarrhea, with essentially no fever or vomiting).  Anderson's reportedly has had no similar issues in Yolo County before this.

There are at least two separate aspects of this: one is County Health action and the second is what if anything can/should we do to make this right.   We expect an update from Solano Enviornmental Health this afternoon, and will be seeking input from the Reunion Planning committee at a meeting next week.

If folks are still experiencing symptoms, you should consider seeing your doctor.  If you request a stool sample, it may shed light on that is causing this.

More to follow.

Just wanted to add my name to the list of reunion attendees that were sick after our reunion.  The Reunion on Saturday and picnic on Sunday were wonderful, saw lots of old friends, and had a great time.  I  got sick on Sunday evening and was really sick all day Monday.  My husband ate everything I did, but did not get sick.

Had a great time at the reunion. Got very sick.

Hope we have another one soon, without the sick part.

It’s wonderful to read so many positive responses, even from those who later became ill. There were 12 at our table and about half of them got sick. I avoided the salad due to sensitivity with some dressing ingredients, and I had no ill effects. I have used Anderson Catering numerous times, for work as well as church functions, and have the utmost confidence that whatever happened was an aberation. There are so many food pathogens, especially in lettuce and spinach products, we are fortunate this doesn’t happen more often in our homes. I hope by now everyone is over those awful symptoms. See you at the next reunion!

Hi Gary, I went to the 60`s reunion with Paul Giusti, Raul Castenada, and John Canavari. I did get sick slite fever and symtom like flu lasted 24 hours. I called Paul he said he got stomach cramps but doesn`t know if it is related to the dinner, haven`t talked to Raul ior John yet. If I were to pin point the source I would say it was the Pasta Salad just didn`t taste the way Pasta Salad should, didn`t eat it all.

We closed the Reunion GI survey and are sending the results to the Health Dept and hope to meet with them next week to get some conclusion to this issue.  No smoking gun yet.

**********************************************

THERE IS A SHORT SURVEY FOR ALL REUNION ATTENDEES AT THE RIGHT SIDE OF HOME PAGE, TOP: "Reunion Gastro-Intestional Issues". Please click it and a short form is available for you to fill out.

"Sorry to feel the need to do this, but we are asking all that attended the reunion dinner to respond to this survey (we know who got tickets, but not all attended).  We want to know who experienced gastro-intestional problems after the Sept 15th Reunion dinner."

"If you are still experiencing problems, the Environmental Health folks are recommending you see your doctor as the duration may be an indication of more serious problems.  If you do see a doctor, would you please ask for a stool sample, as it will enable the Environmental Health folks to better analyze what happened.  The survey results will be confidential with respect to other classmates, but provided to the Environmental Health folks."

"Thank you for your forbearance on this issue as we try to work through it with Anderson's Catering and the Solano and Yolo County Environmental Health departments."

If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Wetzel Bruno debbie@bellavierealestate.com/530 848 8046 or Gary Wegener gwegener4098@gmail.com 530 908 4914. "

And to think that the manager of the team, Ed Kindelt, would turn out to be my former husband!!  He loved interacting with kids, maybe that is why he was such a great dad to our son and a great person as a probation officer.  All-and-all he was a wonderful father and grandfather - is definitely missed at baseball and football games.

Mr. Summ suggested the baseball all star team pic attributed to '59 may be a little early, 1961 is more likely; I stand corrected.  JD

What would WHS homecoming be without Carol Hiddleson Wright (61) still doing cheers and keeping up with the current cheer ladies!  Way to go Carol - a true inspiration.

I just can's seem to shake the flu like symptoms.  I believe I am finally there, then my stomach starts to churn.  Off and on.  However, I think I am almost finally back to normal after two weeks.  The symptoms were the worst for the first three days, then just lingering and getting milder each day.  On another note, the decades reunion was a lot of fun for me.  It was great visiting with friends.  Thanks to the committee, I know it was a tremendous amount of planning and execution, well done.

Had an issue on Thursday 9/27 morning and had to hurry off the cardio.  Quick onset (D) went to the doctor got a prescription for Ciprofloxacin an antibiotic, provided samples for Quest labs to culture and check for toxins.  Three days of medication and I am feeling better.  Stay hydrated.  Hope to have the results back soon.  Have felt lethargic just plain tired and not hungry..  It was and excellent event and am looking forward to our next get together.  The memory wall is troubling as we lived through the turbulent 60's and for what ever reason those that are lost are still our friends and contributed to who and what we are today.  Learned alot about life when I was in the Army and now attend military reunions and try to help out our wounded warriors that we have today.  Have visited numerous military bases and training facilities and I am very proud of the young men and women that take time out of their lives to give us the freedom to pursue own goals and make choices that are unafforded to most people in the world.  Direction, leadership, compassion and a sense of purpose seems to be their take aways.  11B's never know if there will be a tomorrow or you will make it through the night.  Try to make today the best day so clean up stuff when walking through the parking lot, take in an extra cart, read to those grandchildren and kiss them good night and remember rumors become evil when fertilized with BS and your friends are your friends. Being sick tends to make us introspective,,, sorry
