I remember Nancy Espigares as the pretties and sweetest girl in the whole school. She is just a doll!

Happy birthday little brother Eldon! And also to Theresa Eve, WHS 1964. I wonder if you and Theresa may have been switched at birth and that Theresa is actually my little sister? We'll have to get a DNA test to find out. Until then, I still love you little bro.

It is a beautiful day for a birthday, Spring is here.  Eldon, enjoy this April 12th Birthday.  Finally no rain.  I walked the backyard and enjoyed all the spring flowers with Missy.  I sure do not feel the big 73!!!!  Where  did the time go?  I remember all those birthdays in Woodland.  It would be time for the baseball teams to be on the field at Clarks Field near 6 North McKinely.

Theresa brings up a great location:  Clark Field.   I remember a certain American Legion Post 77 Baseball Team that went to the State Finals in '66.   Nancy, also, has great memories of her staunch supporter of the Team - Joe Espigares.  Also, I sort of remember the 'coach' Dick Klenhard, ok I am bias.

Keep the stories, comments, and obits coming.  As said before this is the way to keep in touch especially for those of us living in different States.    We are all part of the Decades Class of the Sixties and the seventies were our first stage of growth -- but now we are in our seventies....

American Legion Post 77 won the state championship in 1963 with the likes of left-handed pitchers Spider Thomas and Ron Carston and first baseman  Marv Klinkhammer.  That team also had Byron Randolph and a couple of guys from West Sacto.

I remember the very, very, old Clark's Field when it was a big green wooden structure with lots of seats.  It was kind of dark and mysterious.  Then it was finally taken down with a new updated field and big lights.

Janice Bell (Killian) (1966)

My Dad, Art Bell, also was involved in American Legion baseball. I remember traveling with the team to away games. After the game we would have dinner at a family style restaurant in old Sacramento. Anyone remember the name of that restaurant?

Sam's Hofbrau.

Hey Don thanx for the update on Post 77.  Unfortunately, the '66 Team fell short at Yountville.  The other loss was a Team jacket that was stolen.

If memory serves me correct, the title was taken from Post 77 as Spider Thomas had played college ball at Sac. State earlier that year.  Apparently a little known rule.  I'll check with Spider to confirm.

Joel. Sam's may have been one, but the place I was remembering was sort of under the I St. Bridge. I think it had an Italian name.

Woodland High School fashion....pale blue surfer pants with pegged legs, madras shirts, pacific trail jackets, Frisco jeans, granny dresses, mini skirts, converse tennis shoes (black), hush puppy shoes, Pendelton shirts, Levi jeans, white T-shirts (in this category I believe the JC Penny Towncraft brand was preferred)....etc. There was even a brief window when zip up Beatle boots and guru jackets were in.  My mother was the queen of cutting corners on fashion. She insisted JC Penny's wool shirts were the same as Pendelton but no one at school shared her belief.  The same with converse tennis shoes, she thought JC Penny black low tops were the same and much cheaper.  I would be embarrassed to go to school with the 'knock off' immitations.  Sometimes mothers just didn't understand the importance of a label...LOL.

We went from one extreme to the next year after year, wide bell bottom legs to skinny tapered legs, mini skirts to granny dresses.....it was always interesting.  We were all just trying to survive and fit in.  I suppose everyone remembers the '60' category.  I heard a lot of explanations as to how that all got started.  Some said it was fathers that made 600 a week or some other income related level.  We definitely had our clicks and status groups.

One funny note, the most popular shoe in Secondary School (High School) in Ireland is the Converse black low top.  Some things just don't change!

I think the Italian Restaurant I remember was Machiavelli.  It was popular in the 1960s in Sacramento.  Of course there was the Red Barn out on Fulton.  Popular for dinner dates.

Woodlake Inn, Palamino Room, Sams Ranch Wagon, Buggy Whip, Coral Reef   all places some of us went to on prom nights

The Espanol was the restaurant under the I Street Bridge in Sacramento. Coral Reef was one

of our favorites!

Do any of you Legion players remember my dad, Benny Jull?  He was the coach during the early 60's for the Legion 77 team.  Went to every game until he quit over a misunderstanding.  He played a trick he learned from semi-pro baseball when he played in the 40's. He yelled at the pitcher on the opposing team to throw him the ball and when he did (not catching it) instructed his team base runners to run, making a couple of runs.  There was a big hullabellu.  It was so embarrassing for our family.  He really loved baseball and when he got older took up golf.  He played at Yolo Fliers and Davis Muni until his death in 1998.  RIP dad.

Aileen,  I remembeer your Dad as being a great baseball coach and an all-around good guy. I played for him one year in Legion.  Great knowledge of the game and made the players work hard. I believe he coached the Carston boys in Babe Ruth League.  RIP Benny.

Love the photo of Clark Field and the Post 77 baseball stories. Grew up at Clark Field with mom and dad. Loved your dad Coach Klenhard, I still remember his voice, his smile. My grandson, Koen Carston, is playing on Clark Field now, his dad is coaching and Grandpa Bob and Uncle Ronnie are always on the sidelines, me too. We are a baseball family! Thank you Melanie, you made me blush. Tim Tucker, you make me laugh outloud. Monte, Garry Copeland 8/28/47-10/28/16.

Kathy, thank you! The Espanol is the one I remember.

The Espanol is still in business.  It is now on Folsom Blvd, near the SMUD yards on 59th street.

In the "olden days' the Espanol was a Basque, family-style restaurant. There aren't very many of those left anywhere, even in Basque country.

Janet, there is still one in Reno.
