Janice, We have been to the Basque restaurant in Reno.  It was very memorable.  Our youngest daughter, Whitney and her Husband were with us.  They were in Reno because Shane was clerking for a Nevada Supreme Court Justice.  Anyway, the meal was great up to a point -- then Whitney said "Oh no, I think my water broke."  Sure enough, we scurried around, took Whitney to the hospital and a little later she delivered a beautiful grandaughter.  So the Basque restaurant in Reno is very memorable to us.

The Martin Hotel in Winnemucca, Nevada still serves the traditional family style Basque cuisine. Since 1898.  June 8th and 9th will be the Basque Festival at Winnemucca Convention Center, both West Hall and East Hall.

There used to be a great Basque restaurant called Sheepherders Inn on Folsom Blvd. in Rancho Cordova.  It had a huge fireplace and great food.  We used to go there with a group of people.   It has been recently turned into a different restaurant.  But, if you want to have the best Basque food in the world, go to San Sebastián, Spain!  Not only is it one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen, the food is phenomenal.

I spent my 13th birthday summer as dishwasher at the Robbins Pool Cafe which was owned by my Grandparents for a few years. What a hole in the wall Robbins was. The Cafe was formerly a motel, pool and restaurant. The former motel area, where I stayed with my Grandparents, wasn't fit for horses; the pool would have been nice, but it had long since been shut down and back-filled in; and the cafe served truck-driver slop. What a summer. That restaurant changed hands many times over the years and is now called Swabbie's.  I suppose it was a Basque restaurant at one time. Summer activities in Robbins included listening to my Grandparents fight over money, watching cars go by and...uh...hmm...uh...washing dishes.

Basque-ing in the August sun in Robbins and eating ice cream on my 13th birthday. I also recall one of the waitresses had a cute 13 year old daughter who also had nothing to do during the afternoons. Good thing we were too young to know what couples do in empty motel rooms.

I haven't the slightest. She was hispanic is all I remember. And one of the cooks fancied herself to be German. She knew all of the cuss words in German.

HAPPY EASTER CLASSMATES!!

The most important day in the history of the world!

Jesus Christ was born a miraculous birth in the stable.

He lived a perfect life.

He was crucified on the cross, placed in the tomb, and rose again on the third day so that we may all live again.

May we all do our best, to live our lives to the best of our ability, and be of service to others, so that we may follow the example He set for us...and live again!

May God bless us all!!

GO WOLVES!

The Espanol is a wonderful memory for me. When visiting California, I always take a couple hours and go to Espanol for lunch and say hello to the Perryr. My oldest memory is when I was about four (I'm going on 76 next month so this goes way back) my parent used to take my brother and I to old Sac, where the "ladies" hung out the windows looking for customers, the bums and drunks would be laying or sleeping in the gutter by the Espanol. It was under the Jaboom street bridge at that time. My dad would get out the of car and go ask someone inside to hold open the restaurant door, he would come back to the car and make sure my mom and us kids got safely inside the restaurant. We would sit in these booths in the bar and pull a curtain for privacy. I really thought this was something. My spanish grandmother used to work for Espanol when it was located over on first street I think in old Sac. She was a cook. When my dad was about two they used to tie him up with a rope around his waste and through his legs and let him run free in the alley. He could not get to the sidewalk out front and my grandmother thought he was safe. That was the baby sitter. Oh....the good old days

Please someone, can you help me.  I went to Beamer Grammer School, third grade through eighth.Mrs. Morris third grade,  Mrs. Cushing for fourth grade, and Miss Conger (my favority teacher of all time) fifth grade. During these years, and maybe longer, there was a girl in my class named Amelia Hero. She had an older brother named Peter Hero. Possibly spelled Haro.I do not remember them being at our school all school year, only part of each year. But I may be wrong. If anyone happens to know where she may be, would you please take the time to send me the information. I have been thinking of her for over thirty years. I have tried with no luck to find her. She was such a nice girl. Thanks for your help.

Carol - I remember Amelia Haro! She started school out in Yolo with Joann Damsen, Norma Pierce, Don Dailey, Jim Adan and me. Her father worked for my dad on our ranch as one our hired hands. No, I don't know what happened to her. Wish I did.

Also there was an Italian restaurant on "J Street" called Boitanno's that served family style. Good memories of family dinners there.
