Stans Men's Shop was wonderful, as was Briet's on the same block.  I remember shopping there for Christmas gifts during the raining winters. The shirts, ties and accessories were all so top of the line (Gifts for Dad).  So easy to shop for quality items along with Briet's, Wirth's, Cranton's, Leitholds all great places to shop especially during the Holidays.   Quality items within  a short drive.  Those were the days.  Everything was so well decorated during the Christmas Season.  A wonderland within our town.  So glad all the Woodland High School students could work there.  Memories.

Like everyone, I have also enjoyed all the pictures and information regarding the Hershey Family and home.  As a little girl I also remember all the statues of the animals inside the iron fence of the Ricci home (I believe it was) that was across the street from the Hershey home.  Did someone say that home was eventually moved somewhere??  All discussion regarding Stan's Men Store also made me think of several other stores we had on Main Street; Robert's Men Store, The Fashion, Cooper's,  Breit's, The Stork Shop, we actually had some stores that provided great shopping without going out of town.  We certainly ventured to Sacramento to Weinstock-Hales which was a very nice department store.  Fortunately, a few stores have opened over the last couple of years to provide the community with local shopping, I sure hope they survive this present situation we are all in.

My memories of dealing with the manager of Stan's Men store are not that great, I have a different view of him.  But what is important was I did get a lot of my clothes at the local JC Penny's store.  The center that had (Karl's shoes, Thrifty's, a grocery store I can't remember, DeVon's Jewelry Store, where I would get necklaces for Vicki).  Later I was lucky enough to deal with Mr. Roberts and his store, great prices and good man, always up and helpful with what I would need.  He also gave me my first credit account.  Yes, Christmas was a fun time and very colorful in our home town during the many years I lived there.

Had to laugh at Duanes memories of Charlie...he could be caustic but being around him every day, you realized it was all a front- he LOVED to embarrass people. Before I worked at Stans, I worked in the men's dept. at Penney's so probably sold you clothes. Stop and Shop was managed by Ernie Chuilos, my neighbor

Yes I remember that jingle very well.. Every now and then I sing it to my grands.  We first lived in Sacto on 12th ave near Land Park and shopped at the Riverside Blvd. Stop-N-Shop.   It was a two story building and in an area with shops owned by some of my classmates parents.  Vic's ice cream parlor was my faovorite.  Interesting history of the Kassis family that started the chain in Sacramento.  Not to be confused with the east coast Stop and Shop chain.     http://www.valcomnews.com/stop-n-shop-markets-were-leaders-in-city%E2%80%99s-grocery-industry/

Stop-n-Shop was very active, even had green stamps, then there was the Blue Chip Stamps.  Thirty ice cream cones for 5 cents; Woolworth's Fountain you could get a sundae for 25 Cents, and a cherry coke.  I remember that Stop-n-Shop little song.  Good job Joel.

I worked at Stop n Shop from 1959 to 1963 as a bag boy.  Was a great place to work.  I lived just around the corner on Cleveland st. just 1/2 block to work, I would drive to work just because i could and I was a teeanager.

There is a capability on this site to add additional forums with the thought that such a forum might encourage more use with a more targeted audience.  There is even an ability to make it password protected and name a classmate as moderator who could monitor and control access.  This would be a relatively new venture for us, but could make folks feel more comfortable interacting in a more restricted setting.  Posting something to the ENTIRE 10 classes of classmates on the Message Forum can be intimidating.

We have that concept started with the "other obits" forum, though it is open to all.  Anyone interested in trying a new one?  Could be focused on a particular class, topic like muscle cars, vets, cutest/smartest grandkids, covid mask patterns

I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of Lowell Stanley Joseph, WHS 1969, who recently passed away. I dated Lowell's older sister, Connie while in high school and visited the family home in Knights Landing while Lowell would have been around 7 years old at the time. We would like to invite those who have comments or memories you would like to share.

The obituary is in the "In Memory" section.

Who else worked at the Spreckels Sugar Factory just North of Woodland? I worked there 1961 or 62 thru 1966. Summers and weekends helped pay me thru college. This was my employee Badge while working there,. Most of the guys I got to know there were the older workers, Mickey Burns, Les Ulrichson (sp?), Mr Brubaker are a few of the names that come to mind. My main memories of working there were: "It was either HOT, STICKY, or BROKEN"

Did anyone work on the tomato harvesters for Aoki? We had so much fun though the dirt on us was intense.

Didn't work there but got to tour during elementary school.  I think it was our Brownie Troop...we rode our bikes out there.  Interesting to see the process and watch the creation of "brown sugar".  We were each given a box of powdered sugar to take home. I can still remember the smell of those beets.

Julie Eis (Millstein) (1962)

Greg - My father (Fred Eis)  worked for Spreckels his whole life, starting in Woodland as a "stock boy" and ending up Head Research Chemist in the San Francisco office.   I just came upon his negatives of the Woodland factory, 1953 - was thinking of posting them on the You Know You're From Woodland page.     Julie

My dear great aunt, Louisa Long, also worked there as a chemist in the '60's.

I worked on the tomato harvester.  A really hard job.  You either took off the dirt or took off the smasked tomatoes.  When one of the guys put a mouse on my neck, that was the end of that job for me!!!  I came home covered in dirt.  Never forgot that job. Amazed at the men and ladies who did it all summer like my cousin Sue Fessel.

Greg-I worked at Spreckels for a year full time around 1970 and partime for a year in 1971.  I needed a break from school at Chico State because I was spinning my wheels as good times and parties took precedent over my classes.  Just like you-working there gave me enough money to get serious about going back and getting my degree.  I worked in Inventory Control with a wonderful man named Hugh Jones. Tom Loney aslo worked there.  Our boss in the main office was Clyde Bridewell and I remember Mr. Lieberum from the office also.  Nice place to work-lots of good people.

I remember working the beet fields, folowing a beet harvester, picking up beets the harvester dropped. We had "beet knives" basically a razor sharp machete with a hook on the end. We would hook the beets on the ground, pick them up, chop the tops off, then throw them up into the truck, Filthy work! Had to hose off outside before going in the house to shower.
