Glenda Smith (Stone) (1968)

I was in the front row playing clarinet. Mr. Swartz combined both the marching band and the concert band to achieve the number. Marching band was not too happy about concert joining us and the problem with uniforms until they ordered more.

We had car washes and even worked in the tomato fields as a group to earn money for the trip.

Joel Childers (1966)

I was in the concert band. One thing that Mr. Schwartz did was to recruit as many members of the concert band as he could to march with the marching band on special occasions. In '65-'66 we marched at half time at the East-West Shriners Football Game at Stanford and in the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco. Speaking of songs to get sick of, it seems every time we went on a long bus ride we ended up singing "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall." Yuck.

He did try to educate us with field trips. I remember him saying girls wear heels and hose. We dressed up for them.

Again I want to give teachers who make these events happen A LOT OF CREDIT; talk about broadening students horizons and giving them real world instruction. I think i've mentioned before: Ad Hefner, who taught Latin and French, organized a field trip to San Francisco-I think during my freshman year--to see (that very scandalous and risque) Cleopatra at the Orpheum Theater. The movie was much better than the translated-from-Latin version in our texts!

In the country of Yolo, my sister Mary and I traveled to  attended the "Celebration of Life" for Mr. Hal Brown.  The Match Box Winery was a very pleasant, party sight to honor his life spent.   Many writings of his, books he loved (The Greatest Generation) and pictures through the years; as a young man until present, always a young man full of life and humor!  His lovely daughters Lane, Kim and Granddaughter Sofie, all so lovely; as Ellie.  As you entered the Winery doors, there was a big poster, picture of Mr. Brown as he had caught a hug fish.  He was shirtless wearing casual jeans; looked like Robert Redford for sure!!!  Way to go Mr. Brown, leave us with a full of life picture, a smile and a laugh!

Looks like the very middle girl with braids is Jeanne Vaughn, maybe the middle one row down in the dark blouse is Sharon Little.  Not sure, just maybe.

A snap shot of a  moment in time! Many memories came flooding back seeing the names of so many who are no longer here but played a big part in our lives.

August 15, 1964; just a few months after the Class of 1964 Graudated from Woodland High School.  I can remember not knowing what I wanted to do with my life.  But reflecting back so many very framiliar names.  Shelly Hawk and Eldon Larson, still remain a couple.  Malcolm Pearson and Bill Pearson playing folk songs, a sign of the times.  Mary Anne Lieberum around the folk song park area.  Susan Schamberger and Robert Reed at the fair.  Pat Paulson and Pearl Nakamura always together through high school and at the fair.  Carolyn Reiff was there and Malcolm Gray.  A lot of old time memories.

Dear classmates, I've just received notice that our dear friend Art Fortis has passed away August 21, 2021.  He had just celebrated his birthday.  This last year has been hard on Linda and Art.  Our prayers and condolences go out to Linda and the family.  Funeral arrangements are in process of being made within the next two or three weeks.
