There is an upcoming OLLI class called "The Restored Woodland Railroad Depot and Museum: A Guided Tour" to be held on October 29 from 10 a.m. to noon taught by Mike Evans, a retired federal government training and development manager who has worked to restore the Woodland Southern Pacific Depot and its collection of railroad artifacts. For more information on the class, go to http://extension.ucdavis.edu/unit/osher_lifelong_learning_institute/ or call 530-757-8777 or 800-752-0881.

Class of 61'ers.?

Recently had lunch with Brian Stout and his wife Harriet - as well as Ernie Roncoroni. Brian was out to visit his brother Steve who lives in Davis. We ate at Vince's Restaurant as it is one of my favorites - but also because Vince was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam as was Brian.

Brian and Harriet live near Mechanicsville, Virginia. Brian is semi-retired and is turning over his plumbing business to son Zach.

I've attached a blury pix of Brian and Harriet that I took when I visited them in 2007.

?Brian became a grandfather for the first time in early August! His son Zach and wife Meredith presented Brian and Harriet with their granddaughter who is named Vera. That was Brian's mother's name.

?So I bet that makes Brian the oldest first time grandpa amongst us 61'ers? I might be a close second with my first and only who will be 6 years old on Sept. 15.

Jim Rumsey - not sure about the oldest first time grandparent.  How about a great grandparent.  Melvin & I became great grandparents on 8-25-14.  A beaautiful baby girl.

We're very blessed with 12 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.  The greats range in age from 2 to 8.  Those greats definitely have my husband Bobby and me wrapped around their fingers!  Posting a picture of Bobby and our 3 year old Lilah out in our backyard.

Eldon Larson (1964)

Just 5 more days until the class of 1964 has its 50th reunion.  We are really looking forward to seeing a lot of our classmates and talking about old times, if not the best of times.  We will miss some because of prior committments, but it's sad that some have chosen not to join us for other reasons.  As we get older, it will become more difficult to have large reunions and I hope we all make an effort to make the next event the class of 64 puts on.  I would also invite classmates to keep their phone number, address and email address current on this website.  We still have missing classmates and have made great efforts to find them.

Thanks     Eldon

I just saw an episode of Judge Judy involving a guy from Woodland who got in an altercation with some other folks at PICNIC DAY in Davis. That was weird to see someone from Woodland on Judge Judy, but it also brought back memories of PICNIC DAY. I remember going to Picnic Day as a very young child and seeing a stuffed two-headed calf in the Ag. Dept. at UCD. I could not believe that such a thing really existed. I thought it was fake. My brother, David, finally convinced me that it was real. Does anybody else have memories of PICNIC DAY in Davis?

JoAnn Kergel (Wirth) (1965)

Yes Joel we went every year to picnic days.  What I remember most were the cows with the viewing windows in their sides.  You could watch the digestive process in action. Gross.  Also the building that showed cans being sealed and then given away as banks.  Always looked forward to spending time on the campus at UCD.

Tuni Gravink (House) (1964)

I remember Picnic Days in Davis, and Earth day too. Picnic day was always interesting. The parade (when i first went) and then going to see the cows yes, with the part to see their digestive system. I thought that was interesting. i liked all of it. We had one of our Siamese cat in their vetrinary department there because; he broke out in such sores, and none of the vets in Woodland could figure out what it was, and sent us over there to UCD vet department. They ended up keeping him because we could not cure the sores. He was a nice cat. That is how we could still see him, was; by us going to Picnic Day, and go to the vet department and see the cat. I think he remembered us each time we came. Now, mind you he developed these sores later on in his life. Not when he was real young. That event was a big event for the local areas. I went every year. Then of course, when i moved away i did not. But when i lived in Sacramento i still attended it.

It would be odd to see someone from Woodland on Judge Judy's show.  Tuni

Class of 1964, everyone should be rolling into Woodland around this time.  Big 50th Class Reunion at the Woodland Hotel tomorrow.  Thank you Howard and Eldon on keeping everyone up to date on the big event.  It appears we are having a good turn out this time.  Tell people who are thinking about it late, to pay at the door, if possible.  The more the better.  Who would think it has been 50 years since we were working hard on our studies at Woodland High School, and wondering just who we were.  It takes years to grow up.

Norman:  So glad to hear from you!!!  I so enjoyed you and your wife the last reunion we shared!!!  I wondered what happened to you and those prize dogs of yours.  We can chat tonight about all your weather reporting and career path!!!

Just a note to all our 1964 Reunion Friends, Sharon Boatman will not be attending our Reunion tonight.  She sends her greetings.  Unfortunately, her Father has taken a turn in his health and she is needed by his side.  As we all know, our parents and their health comes first in these days.  Sharon was disappointed, as she did want to see everyone again.

Let the party begin!!!!!

My wife watches Judge Judy, not me. It must be a gal thing. She likes to see the old broad verbally abuse those hillbillies.

The 50th Class Reunion at the Hotel Woodland was a big success!!!  So much fun!!!  Thank you Smokey Rico and all your great Committee Members for making this such a great time for all of us.  I know I did not speak to everyone, as the night just slipped away so quickly, sorry for those like Liz Geer who I missed!!   Great food and lovely location to move around and talk.  I know some people mentioned that I am the Queen of the Woodland High School Forum, so I had to write something about our great time we all shared.  So glad the teachers were able to come and join us.  Mr. and Mrs. Brown never change!!!   My best to all who came so far and do hope everyone returns home safely and ready to keep in contact with the 1964 classmates.  Thank you again Smokey!!!  A Job Well Done!!!!   Memories shared.

Howard:  It was the best of times!!  I cannot say how wonderful the whole evening went, and so organized with the food in one area and the band away for our conversations!  Smokey and all his great people did a wonderful job.  Eldon and Shelly did a wonderful memory board for all those classmates we loved and miss, they were in our hearts.  The night was the tops!!!  We need to roll this out again soon. We must all stay in touch!!! The Red Carpet has nothing on the Class of 1964!!!!  Rock On.

I would like to thank Smokey Rico and his committe for the great golf tournament they organized on Saturday morning.  We had a wonderful time and it was great seeing the guys and for some it's been 50 years.  We played a no-pressure scramble and everyone was very friendly and fun.  And there were great prizes won too.  Thanks again for all your hard work.

What a GREAT nite. It was great to see everyone who attended the reunion this past Sat. at the Hotel Wdld. I'm sorry that I was'nt able to get around and talk to everyone like I wanted to. All those hours on the computer, sleepless nights and all the meetings with the reunion committee were all wirth it now. The dinning room seem to be filled most of the nite with everyone sharing memorys of the past and adding some new ones from that nite. I thank you all for coming from near and far to this SPECIAL event. I would like to apologize for not mentioning that Theresa Eve who sent out invitations to the teachers ( thanks Bee ), and to Gary Wegener for helping me to get all the addressesand other information to get our reunion started. But the BIGGEST thanks goes to my committee members who really did a super job to make our reunion such a success.   Thanks Again, Your Friend and Classmate  Smokey

I would like to echo Theresa's comments about the setup of the venue.  Having the dancing and music in a separate room was really the way to go.  The music was great...all our favorites from the 60's.  Smokey, Eldon, Shelly, Sharon and everyone on the committee did a great job.  Thanks so much for a very nice evening.  I missed seeing some of my classmates and wish they could have come...maybe next time?
