Welcome to the Woodland High School Message Forum.

Ground Rules

(By posting in this forum, you acknowledge that you have read and will abide by these rules.)

The website was continued after the 2013 reunion for the enjoyment of the members.  They shouldn't be subjected to annoying posts when they come to the Message Forum.  Forums work when people participate - so don't be bashful.  But be respectful.  This may seem like a private chat room, but 800 of your classmates have access to it (along with ~two dozen of our former teachers), and many more classmates read than participate.

The administrators reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.  Access and participation on this forum is not a right, it is a privilege and abuse may result in suspension or revocation of WHS60s site access at any time.

Abuse includes but is not limited to personal attacks, offensive, demeaning, excessive or nonsensical posts, badgering, foul language, etc.  It is not a place to disparage others, especially deceased classmates.  Posting involving politics or religion are prohibited as they typically and quickly become offensive/demeaning.

We don't actively monitor the forum, but respond to complaints and take action as deemed appropriate.

Folks, we have had a long standing, general consensus to keep politics and religion off the Message Forum.  Please abide by that.  And the rules of the forum apply to everyone; lets be respectful.

If there is interest we can try a side forum focused on politics, if we can come up with guidelines to keep it civil and constructive.   This may be the best of times, or the worst of times, to try such an effort, but the communication/understanding divide in our country is terrible and should be something we can bridge.  If we can learn to do it here, maybe we can apply it elsewhere.

If some of you are interested, I think I can set up a password protected forum for politics, with a requirement that we develop and comply with a set of guidelines we develop.  And that we give it a 30 45 day trial to see if it works.  But we need to keep the Message Forum respectful, and keep politics off of it.

Thoughts?

Call me crazy,

Gary

Craig. you are showing us all why most people dislike lawers.

And now for what is REALLY important. In the world of sports, NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga is now a perfect 11-0, ranked #1 in the nation. In the NFL: Seahawks play those nasty Rams on Saturday afternoon; loser goes home. And don't miss Monday nights NCAA Football championship game between the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide. Go Buckeyes.

And remember,            "Happiness is the truth"          -                Pharrell Williams.

Gary, a political 'side' site is a good idea. Makes it easy for those of us who don't want to go there...

Well said Janet!

Marilyn Millsap (Thompson) (1961)

I have enjoyed all the historical posts of "old time" Woodland.  There are many other forums for politcal "discussions" which these days aren't really discussions but both sides yelling at each other. Please find another place to share your political thoughts.  And, Monte, I'm sorry you don't like lawyers but there are lots of good, honest ones and you might find you need one someday so please keep an open mind.

Marilyn Millsap, you are so right.  Like any profession, there are good, rightious, knowlegeable persons with character.  We need good attorneys.  Your brother Robert is one.  My niece, Eve, is an attorney and she works like crazy everyday, and into the night to complete her complicated background research to support the heavy workload she carries.  I do not know how she does it working on all her cases, just amazing.  I must add also that Eve has three children to care for in her family.   (Corrected)

GREG KAREOFELAS.........where are you ? We need you NOW !  I'm sure you have another picture of a house, jeep or maybe a bug. Come on you are needed.

Marilyn. I agree. But like any minority most people only rember the bad ones. No reflection on you or yours.

Hmmm. 46 years as an attorney and can't spell "practiced". OK.

O.K. That's better. Monkeys, ants, the old train station on Main Street. THUMPER APPROVES!

OK Elvis This is one of Dad's 35MM slides that I have been scanning and digitizing. As far as I can determine, this was a parade for the 1956 Yolo County Fair. I have many fond memories of eating Chow Mein at the Hong Kong.  Someone has to know the names of who is on the float :-) Yep, this site is for fun memories, please park your religion and politics before you enter

Janet Long (Levers) (1966)

Wow Greg! You have rescued us in memorable style! I've got no interest in joining the controversy some are trying to brew here, but it does make me realize that our national problems/divide very much start locally, and long ago; just like in High School, spelling/grammar and FACTS matter. FYI, Marilyn is not married to her brother Robert, but a different attorney (mine!), Andy Thompson.

Marilyn Millsap, so sorry, my error on Robert's relationship; kept thinking of his wife when I read your comment.  I appologize.   Greg, wonderful picture with the Sprouse Reitz sign.  Mother took us in that store to buy Christmas gifts with our $.25 allowance money we had saved.   Good picture of the parade.

I love to see old pics and stories of Woodland, etc. but agree politics should not be on this forum. There are numerous sites for that if I want to get info etc. thank you

Greg you done good, lots of memories. Dime store, Hong Kong, and next to the Sportsman's club was the Army-Navy store. Can't help with the float, but the car pulling it looks familiar. Thanks Greg, keep up the good work.

How many of you would like to go back there,  and enjoy what we had. Of course we don't want to give up what we have.

Don't ya love being surrounded by farm land?

Greg Kareofelas (1962)

Here's another one of Dad's slides from that Aug 1956 Parade. Love the Gold Lion. Anyone from the Lion's Club? Is that lion still around?  And "Yes". I remember the Army Surplus store by the Hong Kong, I still have the WWII Canteen I bought there 1961? :-)

Greg Kareofelas (1962)

& BTW, the car pulling the float in the previous pic was a 1950 Nash AirFlyte, a car we thought was so ugly we would not have ever driven or rode in one. The kind of a car your grandma would have driven :-) Looked like an upside down bathtub. That is until the early Porsche just about copied that design :-)

Greg, I'm thinking the old War(Army)
Surplus Store was in the 400 block between The Chicago Cafe and what is now Blue Wing Gallery... Currently a vacant lot.

This message is for Craig Mayfield: Craig, I would like to extend an invitation to you; to join a conversation group that I facilitate every Friday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.  We are a group of retired individuals who meet to discuss current National and World events.  And Yes, we discuss the issues of politics too. We welcome everyone's thoughts and comments.

The Nation's current events are historical and vital to understand and continue to be aware of how we, as aging population, are affected by the circumstances and the results for our grandchildren's future.

Please feel free to contact me at my email: cjoypeace@gmail.com

Regards,

Charlotte Apodaca Lucero

Okay guys we're doing good now, got some of our old sluggish brains perking.

Greg my great uncle had one of those cars and lived in San Francisco. They would come see us and literally melt from the heat. That was the early 50s.

Charlotte,  I don't think Craig is retired yet (are you Craig). He would definitely spice up the meeting.

Keep it going guys and gals.

Tim, The Army-Navy Surplus store was on the west side of the Hong Kong. Frank Cobos ran it and made big money when the Braceros were in town from June until October.
