Thanks Robert. You  have almost made me want to leave this wonderful site. Can we please stay on topic, mainly WHS memories, Woodland, and what our old friends are doing now.

Please don't waste this wonderful site with your political, opionions and observations. We are all, now, so much older and wiser.

Do you really think that this late in the game that Robert Cowing can sway our own political views? With all due respect, and I do respect your thoughts and recollections, please stop.

So, anybody remember Captain Sacto dropping ping pong balls on Main St.? ( sorry, just wanted to change the subject).

Yes Dan, I got the opportunity to visit with Captain Sacto in person and get a signed picture of him. He was always a gentleman with a smile. He made time for his fans. What a great memory! So many great things took place in Woodland. I am getting a chance to return in November so hope to see some of the classmates around town. Go Wolves!

I alway thought it would be fun to be on Captain Sacto  but never got the chance.  Did enjoy watching Miss Nancy on Romper Room though.  I always tried to be a Do Bee and not the Don't Bee.  Life was so simple then as I drew on my TV with the plastic cover so when I traced Winky Dink it would not ruin the screen.  Did anyone else have one of those kits?  Pretty basic compared to all the electronics out there for kids now.

Linda..you are totally right great memories...that what keeps me going..to think back how things ran so well..yes there were some struggles...but we had our Heros on TV...Mickey Mouse Club........WE made History.......We knew how to solve problems...enjoy being a Kid and now enjoy being an Adult..some of us.....We learned how to make time for  'ME' time...Nice to hear calm.....back to the way Woodland was and the way we lived and not to hear all the Whinning........I guess you said it best.......

Thank you Janet Long and others that are trying to steer this site back away from politics. Yes, there is a silent group (didn't want to use the word majority) who has had to endure the rantings here but felt it was not the place to inject our politcal opinion. It just creates more devisiveness which we have too much of already

Brother Brian got to be on television on the Bosun' Bill show, which came on before Captain Sacto. Remember Crusader Rabbit and Rags the Tiger? You Tube has episodes of Crusader Rabbit. (Boy are they dated. It's amazing what entertained us back then.) Also, you can see the opening segment of Captain Sacto on You Tube..."and now that barnstorming test pilot...."

There is one presidential candidate who if elected would tear this country apart and start the worst war in our history. Please do not vote for Abraham Lincoln.

Here is a picture of Captain Sacto, our Harry Martin.  This is a picture of my sister JoAnne Eve with Captain Sacto on April 28, 1961.  Harry Martin, or Captain Sacto, passed at the age of 81, on Feb. 17, 2008.  I did meet him while in Old Sacramento one day and talked with him in passing.  A very pleasant person.  He worked for KCRA Channel 3 for more than 30 years.

Home coming last night with Woodland losing a close game 13 - 12.  The high light to me was our very own Carol Hiddleson Wright, class of 1961, coming out and showing her stuff.  She has been doing this for as many home coming games I've attended.  She is amazing!!!  No pressure Carol for next year, but look forward to seeing you out on the track again!!!  Carol's blood must be Orange.

Why only Captain. Sacto?

Janet Long (Levers) (1966)

As I started to stay before I got auto-corrected, why only Capt. Sacto? What about Skipper Studio (Nathan)? He was on Ch. 3 every afternoon, I believe. Wore a black boating hat.

Janet Long, are you thinking of Captain Delta? I can't remember if was before or after Captain Sacto..

Joseph Duzan (1968)

What I should have said was I don't know if Capatain Delta replaced Captain Sacto or the other way around..🤔

True Dan, It is amazing how "The walking dead" can take up so much tv time. Being an elementary teacher, I do not like putting such negative material in front of young minds. Back in our time Being outside playing ball, army and running through the rain was exercising our brains and bodies with good fun. Thankful we had so much fun with good friends.

My memory of Capt Sacto goes back to about '55 or so.  He was on the first UHF channel out of Sacto.  He had a "peanut gallery" ala Howdy Dowdy.  He was Stu Nahan sp?  I thought I was a budding movie star to be on his show when I was a Cub Scout. Bragged about it for weeks.

Craig, you should Google Winky Dink to see what he looked like.  He was a little fellow with yellow hair shaped like a big star on his head.  If you had the plastic cover on your TV screen you could interact with him with a dot-to-dot type of fun with your crayon type markers.  I guess you had to be there to enjoy the memory. :-)  Surely someone else remembers this show.

Joel, I loved Crusader Rabbit and Rags! Not too many people I know remember them.

Yeah, good memory Craig. I do believe Skipper Stu was on Channel 13. My wife grew up in Erie PA and she remembers an afternoon tv show with a fake boat captain, a clown, and a mermaid. They played Beanie and Cecil cartoons. I guess every area of the country had there local afternoon kids shows after the soap operas and before supper when our Moms were in the kitchen preparing real food and Dads were still at work. It kept us away from doing homework and chores. And of course the grand-daddy of all kiddie shows, The Mickey Mouse Club. I believe I was in 5th grade when the word got all around Beamer School... beloved Mouseketeer Annette Funacello died on a roller coaster ride at Disneyland. Am I the only one who fell for that one? And speaking of rumors, did Frank Sinatra really stop by the Woodland Hotel?

Joel, In 1967 Skipper Stu Nahan had a show in Philly and he was called Captain Philadelphia. In Sacramanto he was Skipper Stu then when he moved to Jersey he was Captain Philadelphia. He was also an excellent Sportscaster.

Lighten up Don. Joel was talking about a rumor many of us heard when we were kids. Yes Frank was in Woodland. As were many stars of the day, as recounted in previous posts.
