Craig, you should Google Winky Dink to see what he looked like.  He was a little fellow with yellow hair shaped like a big star on his head.  If you had the plastic cover on your TV screen you could interact with him with a dot-to-dot type of fun with your crayon type markers.  I guess you had to be there to enjoy the memory. :-)  Surely someone else remembers this show.

Joel, I loved Crusader Rabbit and Rags! Not too many people I know remember them.

Yeah, good memory Craig. I do believe Skipper Stu was on Channel 13. My wife grew up in Erie PA and she remembers an afternoon tv show with a fake boat captain, a clown, and a mermaid. They played Beanie and Cecil cartoons. I guess every area of the country had there local afternoon kids shows after the soap operas and before supper when our Moms were in the kitchen preparing real food and Dads were still at work. It kept us away from doing homework and chores. And of course the grand-daddy of all kiddie shows, The Mickey Mouse Club. I believe I was in 5th grade when the word got all around Beamer School... beloved Mouseketeer Annette Funacello died on a roller coaster ride at Disneyland. Am I the only one who fell for that one? And speaking of rumors, did Frank Sinatra really stop by the Woodland Hotel?

Joel, In 1967 Skipper Stu Nahan had a show in Philly and he was called Captain Philadelphia. In Sacramanto he was Skipper Stu then when he moved to Jersey he was Captain Philadelphia. He was also an excellent Sportscaster.

Lighten up Don. Joel was talking about a rumor many of us heard when we were kids. Yes Frank was in Woodland. As were many stars of the day, as recounted in previous posts.

I just had to share this. I've had a tune stuck in my head for about 50 years but I could never remember the whole lyric or the name of the song. I only remembered the tune and one line that went, "...little Doe, I know the band ain't bad.." Amazingly, it was just posted on a You Tube channel I subscribe to. The song is a one-hit-wonder called, "Come Outside" by Mike Sarne from 1962. If you remember it, bully for you. If you want to hear something from your childhood that never gets played on the oldies stations, this is it. Check it out on You Tube by typing in the name of the song and singer.

Craig, I thought we fixed Joel's implant?  . . .  It seems to have kicked in again.  You better see to him before he shares any galaxian secrets or displays any more of these unusal feats of mental recollection.

...and I never said it was a good song. Bad songs get stuck in my head to...especially when they are implanted by one of those shape-shifting boogiemen in that flying saucer under the sandpile out in the back yard... or Craig Mayfield or Robert Cowing. They all came in on the same saucer.

Thank you to all that have responded regarding my message about the political tone here. I think we have seen a more diverse look now. We only have 4 more days till election day. I know how "stressful" this campaign has been for most of us despite political choice. I have been a registered republican and a registered democrat...this year I choose to vote for Ms. Clinton.

I do really enjoy this site since it is so informative in so many ways, and Robert, I also appreciate the obituaries! I was very saddened to hear about Mrs. Leathers.

Thanks again everyone for just toning it down a bit.

Lenora

Seeing posts from my 1960 classmates Lenora Monaco and Tommy Ehrke have finally inspired me to figure out how to log onto this site.  Hello Lenora!--Remember our wonderful English class with Mr. Brown?  Tommy, Happy Birthday!  Do you remember when the teacher made you sing "I'm looking over my dead dog rover" in front of the class?  Robert, thank you for the sad but informative obituaries.  And hello to all of you from the very old days of Mr. Thatcher, Mrs. Waterman, Mr. Faltis, Mrs. Newman, etc.  I live in Berkeley now (I met my wife Karen in the Peace Corps and we have two grown kids) and go to Woodland occasionally to visit my sister Marsha and her husband Dennis Gorman and my cousin, Jack Mitchell.  Go, Wolves!  Larry Michalak

" . . .   And hello to all of you from the very old days of Mr. Thatcher, Mrs. Waterman, Mr. Faltis, Mrs. Newman, etc."

ROBERT: I am only 5 years younger than you and I had Mr. Thatcher for Geometry and Algebra. But to feel how old you really may be, my mother and my aunt both had Mr. Thatcher for Algebra.  They would be either 100 yrs old or just under if still surviving today.

"I live in Berkeley now (I met my wife Karen in the Peace Corps and we have two grown kids) and go to Woodland occasionally to visit my sister Marsha and her husband Dennis Gorman and my cousin, Jack Mitchell.  Go, Wolves!  Larry Michalak"

ROBERT: Did you know Don Gray (WHS 1962) is also a Peace Corps alum ? Welcome aboard the Reunion Web site and join the few and the proud of classes 1960-1969.

Kathy Thornsberry (Ellinghouse) (1968)

I’d like to pass on what my  90 year old dad told me:

He, along with many young men, left high school to enter WWII when he was only 16.  He found himself on a Navy ship in the Pacific Rim.  I can’t imagine a young man on a ship when he couldn’t swim, but he cared about his country, his family, and the American he knew.  He used to tell us what Benjamin Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest”….and he made certain all four of his children had an education and could obtain and utilize information to make decisions in life.  He also told us EVERYONE should vote like he did…..that is, THE WAY THEY WANT TO…!!!

Thank you Kathy, God bless your dad and the many others that stood up to be men and women making this a great free America. Vote, your life of freedom depends on it!

Hello Craig et al...yes, when we vote we each get to vote for our own personal choice. This is a wonderful part of our democracy so everyone please do vote!

President Obama and other world leaders are currently in San Antonio, Texas consulting with the space aliens in the basement of the Alamo to decide on the next white house puppet. Tune in tonight for the startling results. Yes Kathy Thornsberry...right on. That is exactly what my Dad did...left Woodland High School at 16 or 17 and joined the navy to fight for what he strongly believed in. And though I have been making light of this election, I do believe that my Dad can rest in peace knowing that America will go on being the greatest nation on God's green Earth regardless of which one of these chumps sits in the oval office.
