Now that's a wresting match I would pay "big time" to see.  How's that saying go?  Put your money where your mouth is.  Even in high school, I would tend to sit quietly in the back row and take it all in.  I found that I learned a lot more by listening than talking.  I'm still a back row participant on Message Forum.

Could classmates living in the Santa Rosa/Napa area let us know how they are doing?  Several homes are gone due to the wild fires that are burning.  Sending positive thoughts to those in harms way.

How is the weather in the Sacramento Valley?  We have only had about two or three days without rain in the past two months.  Even the natives are complaining.  We get the worst weather on the island overall, but it is truly beautiful, I guess a bit like living in Washington.  Generally in the high 50s and 60s in the summer and high 30s and 40s in the winter.

I remember walking the streets of Woodland in the summers and that black tar they used to patch the streets would soften and stick to your shoes.  The sand out at the river was so hot it would burn your feet.  We didn't know about sunscreen back then, and I have to deal with the consequences today.  I used to love the parties at the river, the rope swings, and the fun.  We had our party spots and every weekend we would cruise Main asking, "where's the party?".  Sometimes it would be Nelson's grove, sometimes the river, sometimes out in the foothills, or somewhere else.

We are fine here in central Santa Rosa. Just staying inside with fan and AC as the smoke is awful. Quite a bit of the city north of us is gone! Lots of our friends have been evacuated and are staying with family and friends. Two out of the 3 hospitals have been evacuated but the one a few blocks from us is open. My son-in-laws sister lost her house. The borate bombers are flying overhead. Quite a bit of devastation but I thnk Napa is probably worse! So sad. Thanks for your concern, Joann.

Tom - if you had asked for water and i had provided water , food and safety, you complain.

You have nothing to say about Craig that carrys any merit.

Robin Hood stole from the government (the sheriff) because the government  (King John) stole (high taxes) from the people.  Socalism promotes high taxes and control of the means of production and the distribution of  government stuff.  Socialism requres the means to force people to tithe and obey.  This requires that the government ultimately become totaliarian.   People will support government if they promise free stuff and are not really cognizant of all the costs.  That and other single issues are why I voted for Trump.  I don't wish to argue my views (this is not the forum for that and who really cares :). I just wanted to say that Craig's self righteousness is not universally supported.  Google Naziism. At its core beginning it was socialism.

Cuba, Venezula, Pol Pot's Cambodia, Vietnam, the USSR, China, North Korea, Iran and other assorted now failed or failing countries around the world.  A few have now embraced capitalism and may make it.

Paul, you said it pretty well.  I think we all tire of the constant bashing of the current president.  He wouldn't have been my first choice as either a candidate or president, but I would have chosen almost any breathing human being over Hillary.  In some ways the liberal democrats can take the full blame for Donald Trump by not giving America a viable alternative. I can't think of a worse candidate than Clinton, and she continues to prove America's choice right.

I just asked about the weather, not a lengthy report on wild fires.  We had a brutal wild fire up near Pollock Pines when I was living there, and it can be frightening and devastating.  Such a beautiful part of the the world being destroyed.

I am growing very weary of this forum.  I have Earnest Conger dogging me by private message and he just won't go away.  He continually disparages Christianity  and blames Christians for almost every ill known to mankind.  He hates religion and wants to debate it and I just want to cease the conversation.  Most of the time these men are very poorly informed and use history and other things to vent their hatred of things spiritual.  It does become very trying.  I have debated many, many people over the years, and many of them were actually well informed and interesting, but that is not the case here.  So sad.  And all of this out of a High School forum.  I guess the bordom or life must just be too much and the need to create havoc too great.

Ernest R Conger (1967)

Tom, if you want this to end why do you keep up the personal attacks? Whining to others about me isn't letting go. Telling lies and being a hypocrite will not end well for you. I don't hate Christianity only Christians like you. You're like most hyper-religious people, believe your way or else you attack. I haven't said anything about religion that isn't true and variable in history.

Don't want this to continue, don't mention my name again. And if you do, at least get the spelling correct.

One last thing, I'm hardly ill informed. I have a degree in religious studies.

Have a nice day.

Let's take a vote. How many of my fellow Wolves would like to send out a message to the users of this forum. The message is, "PLEASE,PLEASE, PLEASE, when you get the urge to express your political or religious views, DO NOT DO SO ON THIS FORUM. And more importantly, PLEASE, Never use this forum to attack your fellow Woodland Wolves for political, religious, or any other reason. I have high hopes that 6 out of the 7 regulars who are addicted to religion and politics will see the light and remember why we are here. As for the one other guy, he's a tough nut to crack, but I say, "If you quit feeding the sea lion, it will eventually quit its obnoxious barking."

HEY Tom Stewart. I remember a party in Nelson's Grove during the hippie days in 1969. I was about 20 years old, and I took out a WHS senior girl from your class. She was a lovely and innocent daughter of a police officer. (Don't know what I was thinking!) When we got to Nelson's grove some of the people there were running around naked and smoking weed. After she was done ogling a few guys, she asked me to drive her home, and that was the last time I dated a lovely innocent daughter of a cop. You and I must have hung out in the same circles as I certainly remember a lot of parties in the same locations you mentioned. After one such party, I spent a cold night in the Yolo County jail...a sobering (literally) experience for me, a national honor society graduate of WHS. I can tell you, after that experience, I marched myself right off to college, cut my hair and shaved and buried my nose in the books. Sometimes you have to hit bottom before you reverse direction. By the way, it wasn't her father that arrested me, it was officer Larry Martinez, a fellow graduate of class of 1966. If you are out there, thanks, Larry, I needed that.

Joel,   I agree 100%.   But you know and  I know that it will never happen. When one wants to be the center of attention, he will always want to the the center of attention.  Right or wrong doesn't matter to an egomaniac.

I support you a thousand percent, Joel! Don is probably right, though. A bully doesn’t obey the spirit of community, and free speech only applies to his own beliefs. It is simply exhausting!!

Hey Joel,

Officer Larry is now retired for WPD and is presently a honcho out at our local Costco.  I'm sure he'll get wind of this forum post.  I'll bet he even appreciates it.  I imagine praises from past offenders are few and far between.

I remember one night I was parked at the old Purity Plaza parking lot and Officer Ed Harris pulled in.  He used to try and relate to the kids and we would often talk to him.  He pulled up and rolled down his window and I began talking to him.  I forgot I had a couple of "joints" in my pocket and when I bent over to talk to him they fell out and went between his seat and car door.  I said good night to Ed and quickly headed out.

I knew every police officer in town, not because I was bad, but because I liked many of them and some were my neighbors.  Years later I served as chaplain to the Yolo County Sheriff's department.  How things change.

Do any of you remember the Autorama in Sacramento?  I used to go every year.  I remember when I was pretty young I went with some older guys and they kept saying "wow, look at the mags on that car!".  I didn't know what mags were and I didn't want to admit it, so I would say the same thing and sometimes they would say "that car doesn't have mags, those are stock".  LOL

Crusin' Sacramento was awesome.  It was a real "bummer" when they created the K street mall.  Ripped the heart out of the city...or so we thought.

Ok fellow Wolves I've been off this forum for a few months now because one of my 1968 classmates left the sight because of different political views of a certain person (both shall remain nameless.) The Message Forum states in part....abuse includes but not limited to offensive, demeaning, excessive or nonsensical posts badgering, foul language,etc....they shouldn't be subjected to annoying post when they come to the forum. So we should read the rules on the Message Forum before we post. So let's start a new as of now and anyone should stop a post in its tracks if it doesn't follow the rules and said person should be warned and then if they continue gone so we can all enjoy our past as Wolves and Woodlanders.....So how you doing? Have a great day.

Vern Larson (1960)

Thank you classmates! I'm getting a sense that this forum is trying to return to be used for its intended purpose...and that is wholesome entertainment for everybody. HOORAY!  I would like to contribute my part and add a humorous story that happened the summer after graduation in 1960.

Terry Morris and I were bucking hay for Barney Egan and hauling the loads to the Sutter Basis pellet mill approximately 15 miles North of Knights Landing. We had 100 bales on the truck weighing approximately 7 tons. We got the bright idea to tie a rope around my waist and the other end to the front of the truck. We put the truck in the lowest granny gear and Terry got out and began pushing and steering while I was out in front appearing to be pulling the truck down the highway. It must have been quite a sight!  A kind little old lady pulled up to Terry in a Cadillac and said, "You poor boys, can I be of any help?"  Terry thanked her for her kindness and said, "That's ok...we just have another 5 miles to go."  Everytime Terry and I get together, that memory always comes up!

It's your turn classmates! I KNOW you all have a story to tell. Lets lighten up and enjoy ourselves and have some fun!

GO WOLVES!!

Hey Vern Larson I saw where you bucked hay with my cousin Billy Carter. My uncle Sterling (his dad) hired me one summer to work with them. I was 17, skinny can you imagine me bucking hay. (funny.) I drove the harobed which picked the bales up. So I guess you knew my cousins Bobby and Raymond? By the way I've always enjoyed your posts. Take care.

Does anyone know where Chris Casias is laid to rest? I asked both cemeteries in Woodland and they have no records of him (strange to me.) Thanks.

Here is link to "Find a Grave" for information about Chris Casias.  https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=113650522

Joel- I agree 100%. That's why I haven't posted. Neither sode is going to convince the other and just like our country, it just brings out the ugliness on both sides.

Stanley- Good to hear from someone in our class and someone with class!

Kathy Caldwell Jones, thanks for the website, I did find where he is laid to rest, St Joseph Catholic Cemetery. I wanted to pay my respects to a great guy. When I went to the Vietnam Memorial Wall he was on my list to get a rubbing of his name. I also am a Vietnam Combat Veteran. It hurts, he truly was a wonderful, kind person. Paul Lieberum thanks for the compliment. I remember your great band the Mystics so much fun to listen/dance to.

Stanley Carter, another centenarian, who just left us, was Helen Webber, who died at age 104 on Oct. 6th. She was the mother of Jim Webber, Class of '67 (wife, Karen Redmond, class of '64), and was born Helen Borchard, sister to the Borchards who farm south of town on Rd. 99.  Really a classy, delightful lady, very alert until just recently-was up for drivers license renewal after she turned 100!
