Kenny lived just down the street  when we were kids. This pic was taken 1955 or so, when he came to share my brthday cake (with my sister Sue and cousin Chris). Thru Kenny I got to meet his great family - his grandparent's ranch was on Hwy 16 before you got the Madison and his uncles lived also on Hwy 16 a little closer to Woodland. So we got to "play in the country". When Kenny's family moved, it wasn't far, around the corner on Beamer Street. Kenny was the ultimate "sports guy" and I wasn't :-) but we stayed friends and I got to share his many victories with Little League and HS football, etc etc. It was sad, when I heard how sick he was, when we had our last reunioun (the 55th in 2017). At that time, some of his friends, me included, called and had a chance to talk with him and remember some of those "fun times in Woodland". R.I.P.

Yesterday,  I attended the memorial for Richard Branscombe in Escalon, CA.  Richard was my life long friend.  Our parents lived next door to each other in Woodland.  Richard was born exactly one month before me and so our Moms were pregnant at the same time and enjoyed their new babies together.  Our families shared picnics, outings, and vacations.  My father worked for Richard`s Dad for some years.   We played in all the backyards on the corner of Cross and Cleveland Streets.  Richard was a extremely smart and I admired his intellectual abilities.  We went through all the school years together, played in the band,  and enjoyed many good times.  We went our separate ways after high school.  Then,  when my husband and I moved to Sheep Ranch,  we discovered we lived about 1 hour drive away from each other and resumed our friendship.  My husband, Bill and Richard became good friends and loved to talk anything to do with electricity, solar, and radios.  I`m so sad to see Richard gone,  but know he had a wonderful life and family  and really made a positive difference in the world.  I`m lucky to have known him.  At the memorial,  a tribute written to Richard by Michael Crutcher `63 was read to the congregation.  Everyone went away from the services knowing we had lost a great man.

Vern, yes.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All.  We are blessed.  Now  is the time to relax after all those many projects to prepare for Christmas.  Enjoy this special time.  I watched Ben Crosby and Bob Hope on Channel 6 about all they gave to all the people at this time of the year, especially the people in the service.  What wonderful men who gave.

I could not locate a 1939 WHS yearbook to post Phyllis Johnson Holck's graduation photo. If anyone has access to that year book it would be nice to see her graduation photo.  RIP Phyllis

I was privileged to know both Charlotte and Phyllis. They were inspiring role models for me as I was growing up. They were greatly loved by all who knew them.

Doesn't the WHS library have a set of yearbooks?  You could also check the Yolo County Archives as I know they have some too.

Larry Lee Griep, age 67, passed away on Thursday, December 27th, 2018 in Monterey, California. Larry was born on January 2, 1951 in Woodland, California to Grace Elizabeth Griep (Enhelder) and H. Edwin Griep.

Larry attended Woodland High School (WHS 1969) followed by over 50 years of work in the automotive industry, eventually opening his own machinist shop in Monterey, California.

Larry married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Judy Elaine Crim on January 22, 1970 in Woodland, California. Together they had four sons and one daughter.

Larry is survived by his wife Judy Griep, his five children, Brian Griep (Amber), Leslie Griep (David), Eric Griep (Rosalind), Justin Griep, Ryan Griep (Cori), his 12 grandchildren and his siblings Daniel Griep (WHS 1961), Nancy Griep-Brabec (WHS 1965) and Carolyn Griep-Holliday.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother Grace, father Edwin and brother, Robert Allen Griep (Bobby) (WHS 1965).

Larry passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family. He fought early onset Alzheimer’s for several years, but is now free of pain and discomfort.

He was the kindest, gentlest, most humble, and hardest working son, brother, husband, father and friend. He spent many long, dark nights working on other people’s vehicles leaving his work obligations to follow. He could fix anything and loved to use his hands to help others. He never passed a stranded motorist, or a person or animal in need. He had a trademark smile and wasn’t afraid to show it. He was a quiet man, but a deep thinker. He loved everything on wheels and tried to collect as many of them as possible. Old cars, long drives, trains and tinkering on anything and everything were his passions.

His love of the Lord guided all he did, and everything he was. He truly gave everything to the Lord, living the moral of his favorite biblical lesson, The Pineapple Story. His children remember Larry reading them this story and instilling this value in them from a young age.

There will be a memorial service for Larry on Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at 2pm at Salinas Valley Community Church (368 San Juan Grade Rd, Salinas, CA).
