Tom,

I agree with your message about the 50's-60's.  I was very happy being a stay at home mom in the 70's until my divorce.  I was happy that a good State job was available to me and I worked there for 28 years.  I now enjoy a good retirement which I am thinkful for.

Would I like to be back in the 50's, absolutely.  I would much rather have stayed married and been the stay at home mom.  Life turned out fine for me.  I have two beautaiful daughters, four wonderful grandchildren and remained friends with my former husband (like a brother to me) until his death a couple of years ago.

I am enjoying my retiremend, my family and my friends.  Life is good!

Justene

I think the past is gone we have to learn from it. There were good and bad times in the 50's abnd 60's. What I don't like about today we seemed to have lost our simple values and morals not all but way to many. We don't know right from wrong etc. (as society)  Man keeps going faster and faster as time goes on. Slow down and smell the roses. I do tell my grandchilden with all the chaos in the world its still a beautiful world. Find the good in the world, do whats right, be happy. Love youself, family and your neighbors. We are living in the Jetson age with all the high tech in all industries. What we can do on the cell phone is unreal.(Internet) If we brought back someone from the past they would probably think they were on another planet. Anyway i enjoy the posts. Happy Veterans day to all who served our nation in the Armed Forces. Take care.

Hey! Thanks for all the kind responses about the experience I shared.  I have had a couple more "doozies" but will spare you the drama. wink Suffice it to say, I'm grateful for my past (good & bad), because it has played a part in becoming the woman I am today.  One thing  I have learned is to face devastation squarely in the eye, even when I want to run away.  I now welcome life's lessons, knowing that I will get through them faster by facing them head on!  If you run, you just get the same lesson repeated.  Since I'm not a "glutton for punishment," I have become a very good student!  lol  I'm sure we have all learned valuable life lessons.  I now do online mentoring and have turned my pain around to help others in similar situations!  Believe me, no matter if we live in the UK, Africa, Israel, or the US...we are all humans with the same basic needs...there truly is" nothing new under the sun".

I LOVE to watch "Classic Movies".....I am reminded in a lot of them, however, about how women were treated so differently back then.  Of course, EVERYONE back then also smoked one cigarette after another!  And that handsome Marlboro man who promoted being "cool" in all the commercials, died a horrible death from smoking.  I meet women who are newly widowed and are so lost because the husband handled all the finances.  I also deeply admire their marriages that have lasted 50-60 plus years!  I truly respect how those women (and men) have hung in there!  I was so glad that I was able to stay-at-home when my 3 sons were young.  Yet, the day came when I went back to work too.  I believe both were right for my family at different seasons of our lives.

I agree about life's "cycles," Tom, and if I could put it more simply in 'clothing terms': lol  First cycle, we have the "granny" skirt.....then it keeps getting shorter until....we have the "mini" skirt...then the "micro mini" skirt.  Then it starts over again with the "granny" skirt.  It can only get so extremely long and only so extremely short.  I think wisdom and balance is found somewhere in the middle of (most) cycles.

I'm thankful for my peeps that I 'do life' together with...we're all on this journey of life together and it's nice to be able to talk with classmates from my alma mater!

Tom Stewart, I, for one, (and possibly the only one), enjoyed your accurate and insightful "kill shot" at Craig. It was filled with truths that many are needing to hear. You politically incorrect war-monger, you! Your response to the reprimand was cute too. Keep adding to the fire... oops, I mean forum....

Politics, religion, the sex's, so on and so forth.............I enjoy reading this blog, and it is a blog only the subject runs for a timeframe..............Most of us are "Grand Parents", and yes the 50's were great, I kind liked the 60's too, but only up the 68...............I really enjoy reading most of what  the deeply rooted members of our group post, as I came to Woodland in 59 and was there from 5th grade at Beamer to 7/8 at Lee then WHS on College..........I moved to my current wide spot in the road in 76, I still think of and remember my hometown, which never changes, but has changed.............Weird things were done by all, but no one will admit to anything............Can only say one thing......."Keep up the Postings!!!!'    Hummmmmmmmmmmm  "It aint over till it's over, is it over?'.

Mebe?

Craig, the picture from Judy in 1951.  Eldon Larson is the 5th from the left on top row.  I think Harrison Jack is on the 1st row 2nd from left, but I'm not sure.  That picture brings back memories.  I was talking to Dan Kindelt at the home coming parade this year and we talked about our 1st year in the Woodland school system.  Thanks for posting Judy.

i would like to point out that the geography of the united states of america once belonged to indigenous people who lived in harmony with nature.

our forefathers landed and began their invasion a few centuries ago.  each generation of "american immigrants" practiced genocide as a way of life.  we are, at our source, a christian culture based on aggressive invasion and occupation.  our capitism and our christianity might rightfully be described as a deadly combination.  the tenets of these two "-isms" promoted perhaps the greatest genocide in the history of the world.  i do not know what the population of north america, mexico, central america, and south america was prior to the colonial invasions but i'd suggest to my fellow "wolves" that capitalism and christianity together have created an almost endless cycle of "war" since first europeans stepped ashore in the americas. our nation was founded on the war against indigenous peoples.  our revolution to be "independent" was achieved through war.  our civil war was fought exclusively by christian capitalists.  world wars one and two were both fought, tho' not exclusively, by christians.

Thou Shalt Not Kill.  Thou Shall NOT KILL.  The hypocrisy is deafening.

I like this website and I enjoy hearing from other classmates.  We all are unique and come from varying perspectives about different topics.  I respect that some people want to talk more about the past.  I moved away from Woodland after graduation and don't have the history or past memories that many of you do.  There are some topics and conversations that I'm really not interested in, however, I am tolerant of those who do enjoy posting those conversations.  I hope that we can also discuss other topics.  I'd like to hear about what classmates have done since high school, or what they are doing today.  Maybe share things of interest specific to the state in which they now live? I know many classmates still live in CA, and it would be interesting to hear how things have changed, or what you like to do for fun, etc.

I personally find it mentally stimulating and even educational to learn from posts where there is healthy discussion and differing views voiced.  As long as we are respectful of one another and, if needed, agree to disagree.  I just hope that everyone on this site will be TOLERANT of what is interesting to others, even if it doesn't interest you.

Tom,

Thank you for sharing your life story.  Very commendable.  However, I'm not sure I agree with you about the indigeneous inhabitants of North America coming from Europe.  If you look at the facial shape and tone or color of their skin, you don't have to go all the way to Europe.  They most likely came from modern day Russia, Mongolia, or the Siberian area but who knows for sure.  After all they did have to walk.....  I do agree with you about the mythical culture that has formed about their group.  They are people just like us.

I am typing this on my cell phone as we are traveling to the airport for a week in AZ. Leaving the snow! Yayy! Wow, Tom, interesting life experiences thus far. I'm sure you have many stories to share with the grandkids! Thanks for sharing! I will share some of my favorite travel experiences later...the 2 that come to mind first are The Romantic Road in Germany...and Honduras where my dive boat sank...I don'the think I have mentioned these before? Kind regards to all who read this...:)
