Wally, thank you so much for the beautiful pictures of the Post Office Lobby...What a treat for all of us that remember the murals; I can remember being maybe 4 or 5 years old !(1949ish), and just being in awe of them. I see the "let the stamps be with you " poster in one of the pix; was that around 1976?

Remember the "I WANT YOU"  uncle Sam pic on the curb out front??? that one I wa scared of.

Yes, the death of President Kennedy was so tragic....and, on another note, the current rioting & looting in Ferguson, MO is very sad.

I highly recommend the Trans Siberian Orchestra. We will be going to their Christmas Concert here in the Twin Cities soon.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We have much to be grateful for!

Tom, thanks for the WONDERFUL photo of the old Nugget market. A number of years ago (10?) I saw Gene Stille in the current store, and told him I could still hear the (funky 40's) music that was played in there, and how I'd read the comic books near the front door/check-out area. He looked at me in shock, and said "you can't be that old". I sure am....

TSO is and excellent show to see. My husband and i have gone several times. We saw them first in San Francisco (quite a few years back), then twice in Phoenix . It is and excellent show, and you do indeed get your moneys worth of entertainment. The story behind the concert is what it is all about. If you get a chance to see them, go ,you will not regret it one bit. Tuni

Today is Charles Shulz (Peanuts) birthday. He is attributed with the quote, "Once you're over the hill, you begin to pick up speed". Ah, so that is why yesterday we were celebrating the 4th of July and tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Shall I put my flip flops away or just leave them out since it's almost summer again anyway. Do you remember being 9 years old and feeling like reaching 10 years old was about a century away? Life's funny that way. Enjoy every day.

Love the old Nugget Market photo.  I can remember the cars parking that way next to the store.  What a great picture to post for us to recall.  Boy, that Nugget Market is still the best store in town!!!  It is like going to the fair and you always see someone you know.  A Nugget has been now located in Roseville, which I enjoy and the same great feeling is in that store when shopping.

Joel, keep those flip flops on, as I love wearing them and thinking I am still a kid ready to run out the door and enjoy the summer days.  Some things just make you feel the same way as you did as a child!!  Keep that thought.    Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Love the way this site brings back memories. Months back I posted that everyone's parents in our day shopped for groceries at either Nugget Market or Raleys. I totally forgot about Purity Plaza until someone brought it up here. My parents drove a '52 Plymouth for about 10 years.  It would fit right in that picture of the Nugget Market parking lot. Another long lost memory awakened,,,(thanks to Tuni Gravink )...when I was about 8 years old, I went with my brother David to Claude Malcolm's house. Claud had a record player and some special new records that were recorded in an amazing new method called... (drum roll)...stereophonic sound. We must have spent a couple of hours listening to the sounds of trains, planes and musical sounds moving from one speaker to the other. Fascinating! Nowadays I get irritated when someone posts a mono record on the web and it only comes out on one earphone.

Good hangout list, Tom Stewart -- Being car-free during my two WHS years, I do remember the A&W, Fosters and Purity Plaza (especially Taco Bell) as key locations during 1967-69

Bill Means (1961)

Craig Mayfield. RE: 2183

Your Mad Scientists of Woodland is Bill Baldock class of '60. I don't know who his close sidekick was. I spent many hours there my Sophomore and Junior years. That Van De Graf generator was my TV transformer with 3 capacitors and two wires going up starting with a 1" gap and spreading to a 2-1/2" gap at the top. The spark would begin at the 1" gap and slowly rise and disappear at the top and then begin again at the bottom of the wires. They got the idea from a Scientific American magazine and picked up the capacitors and the aluminum base at an electronics store in Sacramento. Maybe it was for a physics project, I'm not sure. The transformer put out 25,000 volts. His sidekick accidentally touched one of the wires with his left forearm and couldn't move a muscle in the arm for an hour. He thought his arm was never going to be used forever until the muscle began twitching. They gave the generator to me and I had it for years showing it on Halloween - but I installed a clear plastic tube around the 2 wires so no one could touch the wires.

Some of you may know my little brother Eldon Larson, Class of 1964, had a heart attack about 6 months ago. He was recovering nicely but had a stroke this morning. He is in intensive care in Woodland and I will keep you informed of his condition. Your prayers would be much appreciated. Thank you.
