Greg, you say you have a great camera with a phone in it. Do you still drive the 31 or did you updated that too?

Anne --- Yeah, that's Dad on guitar, and I'm thinking that's your dad Harold on piano, Bill Linford on trombone, and Ray Walker on sax.  Is that Gordon Friday on trumpet ?  Nice picture.

Anne Loud:  Lovely picture of all the "Young Men" in the Jazz Band, 1950s or so.  That really brings back memories of great times shared.  Jack Martin, good to have addition names of those young men. I can see who they are now.  Great picture!!!  You can almost hear the music playing.  There are a lot of teachers there.

INFORMATION FOR CLASS OF 65 REUNION

Just checked on hotels for the reunion on Sept 12.   There are 3 brand new hotels on the far east end of Woodland:  Comfort Suites; Holiday Inn; Hampton Inn.  After talking with all three of these hotels, I would highly recommend Comfort Suites (phone # 530 723 5900).  When you call for reservations, they will schedule the Airporter for you (if needed) and they will also have a shuttle to and from the Woodland Hotel.  The other two hotels DO NOT have the shuttle to down town Woodland.  As for the price, they were also the best - currently at $89/nite.  This of course will change (will go higher) as the time gets shorter SO MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW!  The only draw back to these 3 places is food.  The closest is a fast food within walking distance for those that do not have a car.  Obviously it would be to your advantage to rent a car at the airport.  They also told me that there will be 3 weddings on the same weekend so that should be another good reason for making your reservations early.

If any one has any questions, please feel free to contact me:  email - gmadee4@att.net; phone -  530 662 2320.

Reminder:  Deadline for reunion reservations is Aug 15 at $45/person; after Aug 15 the cost is $50/person.  NO RESERVATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER **AUG 28**

Cathy:

I remember your house like it was yesterday. Your parents were wonderful to me and I always thought your house was so nice.

I remember one time your sister Barbara, myself and a few others, played strip poker on your glassed in back patio room with the bar, with the drapes/blinds open. We thought we would give the back neighbors a free peek. Those were the days...young, innocent and not afraid to sit around smoking with very few cloths on. It's heck to get old.Carole Urain Ward

Hey Elvis!

Good to hear from you! It was a 1930 Model A Coupe. You could still start it with a crank, It also had mechanical brakes, Fourth Street by Beamer was kind of slick then, On a damp foggy day, I could jam on the brakes and look at which wheel skidded the least, or the most, and adjust it accordingly. I actually had that car well into the 1980's. I probably held on to driving old cars, as my main car, longer than most, I finally bought "new" in 1999 and now the only old car I still have is the 1944 WWII Jeep.

Anyone that doesn't have an iPhone 5 or the equiv does not know the "camera fun" they are missing.. A Modern Family recent episode was shot with the video in a iPhone 6, they are that good. I did a recent Power Point and you could not tel which pix I had shot with the iPhone, vs my Canon.

cheers, greg

Bill Blevins was a great friend and a true gentleman; helped me a lot when I was struggling with "what to do"; he delivered me; brought my dad back to Woodland, the greatest place to grow up. Those old time docs; if it wasn't emergent, they would see you next day; if you required immediate attention but didn't need an ER (EDs now; whatever), they would go to your house; if you needed the ER they would meet you there. Now we are all specialists and if you need the ER, they let the ED docs handle it. It isn't as collegial today either.

Carol,

Thanks for the kind words about my parents.  I guess I missed the strip poker party.  I will have to ask Barbara about it, ha.

That back room was a great place for parties, etc.  The bar made it unique as well.  Lots of fun and good times.

Paula-I was also on that Dodger team with Philly and Bill.  The first person that I saw at Smokey's Golf Tourney before the 60's Reunion was Philly (he looked great).  The very first thing that Philly said to me was "remember when we played Little League on the Dodgers?"  He was the Stud 12 year old and Bill and I were the scared little 10 year olds at that time.  With Philly's passing that will be a great memory for me.  I still tell stories occasionaly about your brother Bill who became this great doctor who some people may have thought was kind of a softy.  He was my catcher (hardest position on the field in my opinion) when we were 12 years old and that guy was tough as nails!  Bill was always a great guy and my buddy all through growing up.  Thanks for your posting.

Tuni Gravink (House) (1964)

Craig Mayfield you are correct about the Geers living there, they bought the house from the O'Hara's , and yes, Liz, Tootie and Bobby lived there not Tuni. Tuni hung out there when the O'Hara's lived there alot, playing in their fish pond trying to catch the fish. Yes, we did cut through that property all of us to get to Gibson School, and both owners knew the kids were doing that  too.  It did have big Palms. Trick or Treat was fun there too! Tuni

JoAnn Kergel (Wirth) (1965)

I believe the first owners of the "Geer" house were Dr. & Mrs. Elsberg.  Might not have the spelling correct.  He was a dentist in the Porter Building on Main.  When he retired they spent a lot of time at Dillon Beach.  He was my dentist until he retired in the late 50's.

Joan Richter (Lucchesi) (1960)

Maybe I'm remembering something that wasn't there but I think I remember a crosswalk and light for kids to cross on Gibson just down from the Geer house, in front of the school.  Anyone else remember that? Also, I am so much older but thought that Tootie was the only girl.  I thought that she was the oldest, then Bobby and Peter. Anyone know the answers to these?

07/01/15 02:15 AM #2116

Rynne Hull (Smith) (1966)

Hi Joan--I think Liz is the eldest girl.  Tootie was in the class of '66 and I think Bob was older but not sure how much older.  And then Peter.  Yes, there was a cross walk for all of us to use when going to Gibson--remember the Safety Patrol?  I think we were on duty in the morning, lunch and after school as far as I can remember.  The last time we got our things out of storage, I found some of the badges they gave us at the end of each school year.  It was so many years ago--hope my memory is correct but am sure someone else will remember it more accurately.

Janice Bell (Killian) (1966)

Rynne, you have a good memory. I grew up on Gibson road, just a few houses down from the crossing. Used to go to the school when no classes and roller skate on the smooth concrete along the buildings. Loved being on Safety Patrol. If I remember right, your sister Leslie also was on Safety Patrol but when we went to Dingle for 6th grade they only had boys,no girls allowed.

By the way, a crosswalk is still needed there. Too many parents try to cross Gibson to pick up their kids.

Walter J. "Wally" Summ (1967)

The "Geer" home to which you are referring is historically known as "Roselawn".  It was built by the Keehn Brothers in 1905 for William Gibson (of the original Gibson Home).  William Gibson had it built for his son, Thomas Gibson.

........and many years later,Thomas had a home built for his son, Mel.

Joan, the crosswalk was about 3 or 4 houses east of the big house. It also had a light. Operated by buttons. It held up traffic badly. People would just keep pushing the button.

Vern Larson (1960)

I have never met Bobby Geer but I know the name and every time I would hear a person talking about Bobby Geer they would usually have a smile on their face and shaking their heads. I always felt he was the type of person I would get along well with. He must have been quite a fun guy.

David Stotts (1965)

Vern-Bobby Geer was quite a character.  I don't know if it was true but the first story that I remember about Bobby was that he had cut up his Mom's mink coat to make a Davey Crockett "Coonskin Cap".  Like I said I don't know if it was just a tall tale or if it was true.  Maybe Liz or Tootie could shed some light on this.  Bobby always had a smile on his face too-he was fun to be around.
