Aileen Jull (Martinez) (1964)

My sister, Kathie, and I lived on Rosewood Way with our parants.  The Stoevans actually lived around the corner on Homewood.  I hope that settles it.

Ron Blickle (1963)

Aileen Jull mentioned the Stovens lived on Homewood Way, which is correct.  That part of town was known as the Crawford Subdivision built for the returning GI's after WWII.  Other families living in that subdivision, included Caldwells (Steve, Tom, Trish & Becky), Meeks (John, Tom, Joan & Steve), Porters (Jim, Bunky, Paul & Robert), Whetzels (Terry), Monroes (Tom, Bill, ?), Jones (Mike, Bill, ?), the Julls and others I can't seem to recall.    My brother, Rob Blickle and I were always on our bikes riding all over Woodland, so recognize all of the streets and people already mentioned.

Jull lived next door and Bobby and Don Johnson across the streed.  The warners and Coholn's lived on Cottage.

Been reading just where some of us lived.....My wife Vicki (Hayden) and her sister Cindy (Hayden) tells me that they lived on Rosewood Way for a few years before they moved to the Ranch in Yolo.................I myself lived on College and Elliott, (If I remember right) and would go to Beamer Park, until I got a girlfriend, and worked in the local gas stations after school................I had a Demorcat paper route for 4 years, was offered work inside of the paper by Ward Ellis when I about 17, but I turned that down for the glory of a gas station and clean white uniform..........

I have been reading all of your posts for sometime and wanted to see if anyone remembers me living on Buena Tierra Dr., two houses from Barbara and Cathy Avilla.  Fortunately most of you were in your own worlds at the time but I use to babysit Jamie Adams, who is a Physician's Assistant now.  Across the street from me were four kids I also babysat.  I moved onto Buena Tierra Dr. in 1960 and remember Barbara Avilla and some friends sneaking and ringing doorbells.  One night they came to my home and my dad chased them home.  LOL!  Also, Peter Garrett was out celebrating his 21st birthday when his friend (which was driving) came around the corner on Jimeno Lane and lost control.  They smashed into my parents front bedroom.  Thankfully no one was hurt.

Then after I got married I moved to 1211 Eunice Drive until 1977 at which time I bought Christ Crawford's home because I always loved it.  I lived there for the next 38 years.  I recently sold it and the people that bought it decided to tear it down.  (What a shame).

So you see there were many other kids who lived on the block of Buena Tierra Dr.

Reading all the neighborhood stories, took me back to 531 First.  We moved to that house when I was 10 years old from the house next door, 537 First.  Jackie Bell, Becky Zane and Marsha Kirkness were my neighborhood playmates and friends.  Becky and I had alot of fun at her house, pranking people and watching from her 2nd floor bedroom window.  I can still smell the pickles and hear the lids popping (indicating that the jars had sealed) that her mom put up every summer as we walked out through the butler's pantry to the back porch.  They had to cure for 6 weeks before they could be sampled.  There was always a lug of big beautiful tomatoes on the back porch, by the back door too, waiting to be canned.  We always took one and ate it outside, with the juice dripping down our arms and getting on our nice, clean white sleevless blouses.  Nothing tastes like those tomatoes.  It was before the tomato picking machines.  Jackie's Dad always cookded dinner for their family.  They had a neat booth style table in their kitchen and it was always fun listening to all Jackie's 45 records.  We went to the State Theatre most Saturdays for news, cartoons, serials, and usually a double feature.  Marsha. Jackie, Becky and I used to rollerskate around the block and all around the Morman Church grounds on Second Street.  Their concrete was new and so smooth.  We could ride our bikes anywhere, the city park, up to Yolo Market or Main Street and never worry about someone stealing them.  Jim Bremer, the Torgrens and the Veraska's lived farther down First St.  Lots of times we girls played fort on the vacant lot at First and Lincoln or collected used Christmas trees and drug them into Marsha's back yard for forts there.  Many sleep overs at Becky's and Jackie's on weekends and during summer.  As many of you have already said, it was a lot of fun growing up in that safe time, so much innocence.  It was a wonderful childhood and I will always have great memories of it.

To Kara Danielson

I remember you living on Buena Tierra with your parents and then buying the Crawford home.  I was

surprised to hear that someone tore it down and built another. I always thought that it was a lovely home.

I don't remember your Dad chasing me after ringing doorbells but cannot deny doing it. That was always

a fun activity on a hot summer night.

Senor Criagy ! Es Verdad.

A Blue Moon will appear Friday July 31, 2015.

A "Blue Moon" is nothing more than the 2nd Full Moon to appear in the same month.  This will not happen again until 2018. It was last viewed in 2012.

A moon's color is determined by what lies between its reflected sunlight and the Earth.  Blue is created when particles in the atmosphere scatter red light and allow blue light to dominate. Volcanic ash or often large fires is the most reported cuprit. Lavender moons have even been reported.

Say .  . . Craigy, have  you seen the movie "The Moon is Blue?", William Holden, David Niven . . ?

Nice reports about growing up in Woodland on various streets which we all recall.  Susan Meyer's, loved your memory story of playing and eating those wonderful tomatoes.  We lived on the other side of town, near Clark's Field on Beamer Street.  First it was the big, green stadium with big walls. Then it was all rebuilt into the wonderful baseball field it is today.  I remember when Mrs. Babe Ruth came to the park.   The  John Canevari family lived on Beamer Street and watched all the games from their front yard, saying hello to everyone who came to the games.  Big social activity right in your front yard.  With all the bright lights on until late, you could play in the streets until 10:00 p.m.  Those were the summer days remembered.  Never forget the crack of the bat as each game began.  Now I just have to watch the Giants play!!

Senor Craig - Blue Moon last night, but not blue,  . . . . at least in the Northwest . . . . beautiful however.

This September we will have a "Blood Moon", the last of 4 for  2015.

Craig:  You got it!!  A lot of Beamer Park and the area have a lot of great history and those homes still remain great attractions for the Stroll Through History.  I just remember the little part of 6 North McKinely, which provided a great surroundings for a child to grow.  But, those fileds of tomatoes are a great part of the history.  We were so lucky to have all those historical surroundings.  A total blessing.  You got it.

Craig-First of all thanks for associating me with Little League/Babe Ruth and Beamer-you have a great memory.  Those days were a very special part of my life.  Having enjoyed the name game on some of the Southside Streets-you have stimulated my old brain cells about the Beamer Park Kids.  First-did Marsha and yourself ever live over on the northside?  I always remember you guys living on the Southside-but my memory is gettin' old.  If anyone wants to get going on the Beamer Park Gang-here's a start.  I'm sure that I will forget many people-so let's hear from you out there.  I lived right down the street and spent every summer day at the park (the park programs in Woodland were second to none).  Nancy Espariges lived right on the corner abuting the park and Sharon Shell lived right down about a block.  On that same street that Sharon lived were Austin and Pam(?) Kramer, Bob Eveland, Jeff and Dave Norton and the Hulses lived on the corner abuting the park.  Some of the kids in the neighborhood were-Craig (my lifelong friend) and Marne Roberts, Vivian Graeser, and Santi Miguel.  Like I said this is just a tip of the Iceberg-feel free to expand on this.

Senor Craig - "Robert...not to get too far out here (been there, done that)...but...some Christians believe that a certain number of " Blood Moons" in a certain period of time...signal "End Times"...kinda old fashioned thinking...check it out...well, everybody has his/her own thing, tho, I guess"

Yes, I have studied the interest in "Blood Moons" by a very small percentage of Christian groups and Jewish groups. We can discuss it on your profile page . . .  otherwise "the hounds-of-hell" from behind the opaque wall of the Reunion Web site will howl and thrash about  . . . . and since we have both "been there done that" . . .  it is not worth revisiting.

I can't agree the "End-Times" escatology is "kinda old fashioned thinking",  I would say that it is definely old and ancient. Certainly a secular version has been shared on the web site when we shared experiences and thoughts about living through the atomic threat, hiding under desks etc.

Moving away from religious speculation and towards astronomy, if you have never seen a "Blood Moon", I would suggest making the effort to stay up and see it.  Most eclipes are fun anyway. If nothing else, it is another sky event to share with children that is readily available. I have never witnessed a "Blood Moon", expecting very little but found it interesting, depending on your color code recognition. Don't fly too high Senor Criag, your wings may melt.

Ah lovely Beamer Park. In reply to Mr. Stotts request for more names I offer the following. Starting College we have the McCrary family (Mary Wanda, Carter, Kevin and Mike. The last 2 wonderful men are no longer with us.).  On Keystone you could find the Edson family(Kathy and Eddie), the Traynham family (Judy was in my class and I think the rest of the family included Richard, Gerald, Pat, Palmer and Gary. Also on Keystone were a branch of the Nardinelli family, EH French, and maybe a Fortis family. Austin and Pam Kramer did indeed live on the corner of Palm and Woodland Avenues. West of the Kramer family on Woodland Ave were the Garretts and east on Woodland Ave were the Shells and the Nortons as previously mentioned. The Springers (Robin et al) and the Campos (Theresa, Monica, Mike Jr. and a couple more I am sorry to say I don't remember)families. Terry Harris lived on Sutter St. While you could find Ken and Marilyn Canepa on the corner of Bliss and Beamer. Were the Dinwiddies also on Bliss? On Third St. were the Townsends (Mary Ellen, Bill who is no longer with us and Carol Ann. Across the street were the Wirths and the Marions. Going north to Palm Avenue were the Bourns (Cindy, Betsie & Vicki), the Mulcahys (Susan and Jan), a second Mulcahy family that included Pat and Brenda but again the memory fades and across the street was the Paulson family that included Marilee, Lucky and 2 more sisters. Heading west on Beamer from Palm you would find the Dodds girls, Kathryn and Barbara and heading further west would discover Clarence Fitzgerald and Web Anderson. Now I must take a nap as the brain is sorely taxed and I know I have left people out....like Rick and Leslie Tozzi.

Yes, Cindy, the Dinwiddies' (Lou, Bruce, Judy, Paul) were on Bliss, as were the Hoffman 'girls', Janet (Winn) and Linda (Santoni). Also, at the end of Woodland Ave., next to Norton's were Pat, Cindy, and Eric Scott. At College and Wdld. Ave, were Janet and Craig Holmberg.

Irma Wirth, mother to Kristine, David & Dan still lives on Third just off Beamer.  David's son Zach & his wife Sasha just bought the Paulisen home and are moving in soon.  How about hearing from some of the rural folks that were born in and around Yolo & Zamora?  I lived on the cornor of roads 96 & 15.  Bill Hatcher, Carol Gorman & Debby Wetzel all live today in or near their family homes.

Anne Douglass (Loud) (1964)

More north side kids - don't forget those on Sunset Avenue, which is on the north side of Beamer School: Marilyn and Erin Morris (graduated in the '50s; daughters of third grade teacher Sue Dee Morris); Terry, Don and Debbie Jones; Jeanne and Mary Lynn Vaughn ( before they moved to the ranch); David and Ann Douglass; and Ruth Wechsler.  Susan Schamberger on W  Keystone; Mahala O'Brien on College.  Also, I think Nakamuras lived on College.  Don Scott at Third and Beamer and Childers' farther down on Third.

I remember summer day camp at Beamer Park:  arts and crafts, baton twirling.  All the neighbor kids would play tag football, use the jungle gym at Beamer School.  We rode bikes across town to the municipal pool.

Back at ya JoAnn Kergel Wirth - you must have been reading my mind as I was thinking the same thing about the families in the rural areas:  the Reiffs, the Romingers; the Cullivans; the Brannons; the Storz's; the Wallaces; the Dela Torres'; the Joosts; and of course the Damsens!!  I can remember riding my bike all the way to your house.  Spending Friday nites with you and trying to convince my mom that I did not have to go to confirmation call on Saturday - nope it never worked, she always came and got me!

Ann-great call on the arts and crafts at Beamer Park-I almost put that in my original post.  My favorite Park Counseler was Viv Greaser's sis-Joan (pretty sure-it was a long time ago).  Don't ever forget the "Gimp" watchchains!  Basket weaving, plaster paris, etc. -great fun!

And the Zamora crew Marilee.  Up a couple of roads the Marchs, Masts, Hogglands.  I remember that long road to Marilyn & Carolyn's.  First house and then they built closer but on the same road.  Lots of us out there and by the time the school bus got to Yolo we were packed three to a seat.  We had the Zamora crew on our bus and since we attended Casheville I don't remember as many names.
